Random question: for folks using screen readers, how does the "degree" symbol work? Specifically: ° I'm trying to be better about alt text. Does it work better to say "100 degrees Fahrenheit", or does "100 °F" present the same way? Is "100 deg F" an acceptable abbreviation? I welcome input here, especially from folks that use screen readers daily. Again, just trying to be better where I can. #screenreader #ui #accessibility #question #advice

Is it necessary/appropriate for a Landlady to keep the things/stuffs like clothes etc that was left by the tenant? (And knowing that the tenant passed away) — for the reason that the said tenant have unsettled payment.. The open source lover in me is most excited about an AGPL project I forked and stripped down to a handful of functions while adding a bunch more. Despite ie being built to be easy to set up, I believe a large percentage of my target demographic may not own a computer (using their phone instead). I think the business model there is selling them a little cluster of mini computers they can self host that back each other up in case one of them is compromised. They could use the same cluster to host other phone accessible little webapp tools. #selfhost #opensource #AGPL #copyright #advice

As I look at monetizing some of the little software tools I am making, I have been told by some of the people I show them to, to look into copyrights. I do admire a good idea, and more and more- a good business model that keeps people honest and away from the creepy surveillance capitalist ways. When chatting with some folks and looking into open source licenses, I find myself drawn to closed custom licensing agreements that would lend themselves to one time purchases of self hostable servers, that could run on other hardware, or even be resold, but not duplicated (like selling an instance to a hoster that can serve many people, but the hoster wouldn't be able to create another instance). In this way, my business model would be selling new instances of my webapp tools for artists, and servicing them. Any business model/ monetization advice on keeping things open source vs closed and copyright proprietary? #advice #licensing #copyright #artist #software #business

Hello Fedi lazyweb. There will be a solar eclipse on August 12th (only partial in the UK) and I was wondering how to take photos of it. A quick web search indicates that pointing a camera directly at the sun can be just as quick to burn out digital sensors as it is to burn out human retinas. And I don't want to do either! I have some ISO-certified eclipse glasses for my eyes, does anyone have any suggestions for how to protect a camera lens (either a physical digital camera or a smartphone camera). Learn English and use international websites if you want to improve yourself regardless of your location. I wish someone told me this when I was young. asking for #advice again, sorry. i'm now officially #diabetic (type 2) and looking to control it with diet. (hence the last request for advice.) information about nutrition on the internet has always been a hot mess, more so in these days of so-called "Al". can anyone reccomend an _authoritative_ source on the amount of carbohydrate in basic foods? searching online i see *wildly* different numbers for, eg, potato. i don't mind buying a book. feel free to boost.
