The hearing is over. Sen #RandPaul said the committee would vote next week on whether to hold Dr. #Fauci in #contempt for his refusal to testify [nope, that is a constitutional right you ignorant prick]. He delivered a dark closing statement, asking of Fauci, “Did his actions lead to the largest man-made plague in history?” Then Paul closed the hearing. Fauci walked out, stone-faced & necessarily escorted by police due to all the threats he faces because of charades like this. #RepublicanGoons

#TRUMP WAS NEVER HIDING 💎 The first time I heard #DonaldTrump was running for president, I knew what he was. Not because I am politically brilliant. Not because #Tasmania has better intelligence services. Because he was so obviously ignorant, #malicious and downright nasty. The boasting. The #cruelty. The hunger for attention. The #contempt for #truth. The constant need to dominate the room and #punish anyone who would not admire him. I had seen that #kind of man before, both in politics and in spiritual communities around the world. What I could not understand was why so many #Americans could not see it. Then he won. And years later, they chose him again. This video helps explain something deeper. People inside #MAGA were not necessarily asking: “What kind of man is he?” They were asking: “Is he on our side?” “Will he hurt the #people we resent?” “Will he restore the #country we believe we have lost?” “Will he make us feel #powerful again?” Once loyalty becomes identity, character stops mattering. Cruelty becomes #strength. #Ignorance becomes authenticity. Shamelessness becomes #courage. #Australia has always found its protection elsewhere. Before 1945 it was #GreatBritain and the #Commonwealth; since the end of the second world war its “great and powerful friend” has unswervingly been the #US. But Australia is now reckoning with a world where its protector is no longer great, nor powerful – nor a friend. The US remains the world’s best-resourced military, but it could not win its war in #Iran, after being humiliated by the #Taliban in #Afghanistan. And Australians have watched with horror as the #TrumpRegime has acted with #thuggish #contempt for #friends – #threatening to #invade, economically #coercing through #tariffs, and publicly #abusing countries with which the US is ostensibly allied. Australians are now wearily used to waking up to ask: “He’s done what?” #EmmaShortis, director of international and security affairs at the #AustraliaInstitute, said she felt many #Australians were “deeply saddened” by America’s current convulsion. “There is a version of the US with which we do share values, particularly democratic values, values of equality and justice. It’s just that’s not the version we’re getting at the moment.” A 1990s prime minister, #PaulKeating, urged Australia to “seek its security in #Asia, not from Asia”. But his reactionary successor #JohnHoward, spurred by the trauma of 9/11, sent Australia back to the embrace of the US. Since then, Australia has been the most loyal – critics would argue #sycophantic – of #American #allies. Government ministers regularly boast that Australia has fought alongside the US in every conflict since the first world war. Australia had held a belief America would “snap back” from a Trump presidency. The US’s cultural influence on Australia remains enormous: Taylor Swift’s tour sent the country into paroxysms of Tay Tay fever; the recent NBA finals series packed out bars in the middle of the day; Australian kids shouted “6-7” with as much enthusiasm as any around the world. @signalapp@mastodon.world Signal IMO has bad security because when someone decides they are not interested in an overpriced, underperforming service of "phone number" and stops using their SIM, they cannot deregister the number from Signal and the new owner of the number either can hijack their Signal account, or people may be blocked from using newly purchased SIMs with Signal. Also, authoritarian regimes IMO can temporarily transfer a number into a provider's internal SIM in order to hijack a Signal account and impersonate a dissident against another dissident, facilitating abduction, torture and murder.
