🎓 Free certifications that can actually strengthen your resume

A Coursera survey of 1,000+ employers across 10 countries found 96% say micro-credentials strengthen a job application, and 9 in 10 would offer higher starting salaries (often 10-15% more) to candidates who hold them. Skills-based hiring is surging too: 97% of employers are using or exploring it.

Genuinely free options worth your time:

  • freeCodeCamp: 11 verified certs (web design, ML with Python, QA), roughly 300 hours each
  • HubSpot Academy: free certs in sales, reporting, and CRM with LinkedIn badges
  • PMI: free GenAI for project managers courses that earn PDUs

One catch: some "free" certs are only free to audit. Google's Project Management course on Coursera is free to watch, but the shareable certificate needs a paid subscription. And free courses work best paired with the recognized paid heavyweights (PMP, Salesforce Admin, AWS) when you're ready to level up.
