@streetmeme@cycle.town asks: Q7. How can small businesses build a clientele with diverse transportation modes? Some business owners oppose bike lanes, bus lanes, and street safety improvements; some claim that the loss of parking will be fatal for their business, despite studies showing that business activity generally increases after such projects. Given that urban street design philosophy in many US cities is finally prioritizing safety and multimodal transportation, what can businesses do to prepare for that future? (Relatedly, what good outreach can be done by people who cycle to preemptively address these fear of losing business?) #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

Welcome to #BikeNite on Friday, August 7th. Thanks for joining our chat. Anyone can join, now or later. Reply to what you like, and boost for visibility. Our intro and question from @FourT4@mastodonapp.uk Q1a. Where are you posting from today? Q1b. Have you booted a tire before (as in put a barrier/patch inside your tire casing to prevent an inner tube from bulging through)? Is this a temporary fix, or can it last the life of the tire? #BikeNiteQ #BikeTooter @bikenite@fedigroups.social

@puercomal@sfba.social asks: I crashed my bike and broke my collarbone, apparently it’s very common for cyclists. Q6. Any stories to share or advice about recovery? #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

And our last question this week as usual: your week in a photo. Q8. What did you see this week? Reply with a photo if you'd like. Cycling related or not is fine. Tell us about it! #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

@MarkBrigham@universeodon.com asks: Q2. Dedicated walk & roll (bike, inline skate, wheelchair, scooter) paths age and weather to the extent that they become punishing, if not dangerous, to ride. What steps have people taken to advocate for maintaining existing but dilapidated infrastructure so walk & rollers can enjoy it again, safely? #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

@pete@masto.hypertelia.com asks: I clean snapped a brifter off a bike the other day, which is now sat in the shed awaiting replacement parts alongside another that has no chain and a worn cassette as it somewhat embarrassingly has been for perhaps 18 months: Q5. Do you have bikes that are out of action and if so, how long have they been that way? #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

Q6. Are there some things that you do now or are considering doing that you never would have considered when younger? (For example, I think it's time for me to buy one of these: https://dabrim.com) #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

@MarkBrigham@universeodon.com asks: (it's been a lighter week for questions, so thank you for sending in a bunch!) We’re 7 months through the year. Q7. If you set cycling or fitness related goals for 2026, are you on track to achieve them? Would any words of encouragement from the #BikeNite community help motivate you? #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

@cainmark@mstdn.social aks: I have been "voluntold" by my spouse that I'm running a kid's bicycle rodeo in August. I have helped with 2 bicycle rodeos run by 3 other LAB LCIs, but never ran one. I've been told they've had them before so have the supplies and proper forms and waivers. I've looked up and saved what I could learn from my bike education materials & the web. Q7. Does anyone have any advice or personal experience to make kids events more fun? I am not competitive at all, and I understand kids usually are. #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

@cainmark@mstdn.social asks: Q2. For those bicyclists who don't use cycling shoes and pedals designed for them, do you have a favorite "flat" pedal? I had some metal ones that were comfortable and worked great, but tore up my shoes over time. And I had some plastic ones that broke after just a few months. #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

Knee pain: fit has a lot to do with it, but how about pedaling style? Q6. Have you adjusted your pedaling style to avoid knee pain? Or do you attribute any knee pain to your pedaling style? Does "mashing" (pedaling with high force, at low rpm) contribute to it? #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social @DeltaWye@tiggi.es via @trouble@masto.ai

@grammasaurus@mastodon.social asks: My Schwalbe Marathon tire (on my Brompton) was punctured and the tube is ruined. Q5. I know I have to replace the tube, but should I replace the tire as well? It’s a tiny puncture, so I’m tempted to use it again, but common sense says it’s not worth it. What would you do? #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

@ascentale@sfba.social @geonz@mathstodon.xyz @bikenite@fedigroups.social A1a. #Atlanta, GA, USA A1b. Back when I lived in Austin, TX one of my neighbors had a bicycle with their mailbox mounted on top as the post to hold the box. I can't remember if the box itself was on the seat or the handlebars or how it worked, but it was just a full bicycle mounted upright at the edge of the lawn/road. #BikeNiteQ
