I spoke with several participants. While the group didn't even agree on the name of the event, one rider indicated it was called "Lime Amigos." There was no clear leader, nor a clear indication of who organized the event, but the people I spoke with learned about it from unspecified accounts social media. A flyer found after-the-fact titled the event a "Scooter Takeover" and used hashtags #LiveLaughLime and #soberfun. When I crossed paths with this event, it was reminiscent of a Critical Mass-style bike protest, but the people I spoke with had never heard of Critical Mass, nor did they describe the event as a protest. The only theme I can discern is the clean, simple simple fun of riding through Minneapolis on bikes, scooters, skateboards, roller-blades, and even a motorcycle. 🧵 5/?

The group was young. I estimate that most participants were in their early twenties. But there were also adults riding scooters with their young children. The group was racially diverse, and very welcoming. Many riders were waving encouraging cyclists on cross-streets to join in the fun.

@djuber@fosstodon.org absentee owner 2 continents owner Heh, drivers can't see cyclists that are right in front of their face. Two continents over, two towns over, or two feet over - all appears to be the same. Having worn my helmet into many local shops, it does sting a bit when those shop owners testify at city council meetings that "nobody ever comes by bike." @PapyrusBrigade@cosocial.ca It's always a good laugh to bike through downtown on a Friday evening to watch people desperately searching for parking near their venues. US Bank Stadium has an average attendance of 66,929 people. Assuming an optimistic four passengers per car, you'll need about five additional stadiums worth of surface area just for parking (to say nothing of driving lanes!). #Minneapolis

I passed all cars on today's bike ride. Despite low traffic volume, cars continue to demonstrate geometric inferiority.Zero honks were collected. A similar feat on Lake Street would have earned at least five honks!Primary difference appears to be the presence of a painted bike lane. Conclusion: Bike lanes exist to coddle the egos of drivers. Bike lanes are car infrastructure. #BikeTooter

It's such a shame that REI isn't more accessible. I was considering a trip there for some bike tools they stock, but was similarly put off by this intersection.

@NNN@bettercities.top @ObbieZ@urbanists.social Richfield infrastructure is so bad it's making me into a NIMBY - as in, I'd rather not have Richfield in Minneapolis's backyard. The Nine Mile Creek Trail would be better named "I'd rather bike nine miles in the street trail." Bike Router correctly instructs you to use the road instead. It's in desperate need of raised crossings. Most of Richfield's residential areas don't even have sidewalks - which was a real shock last time I got off the bus in the area. The majority of their bike infrastructure is on county roads (i.e., provided by Hennepin County).

@moz@fosstodon.org Cars are always honking about something. I assume it's about their love of bikes? They honk when I pass them on my bike... which I assume is them expressing their desire to be on a bike. They honk when they are stuck in traffic... which wouldn't exist if they were on a bike. They honk when other drivers do something dangerous... which would be far less dangerous if they were on bikes.

Sometimes I see people corking intersections on group rides with a rock-solid track stand. It looks like a fun way to flex on drivers, but also seems to require a fixie.

🧵 Photos from Alex Pretti Memorial Bike Ride Alex was a cyclist who attended several group rides with Angry Catfish bike shop in Minneapolis. He was murdered by ICE on January 24th, 2026. This ride celebrates his memory. Today's temperature was a high of 18F, but that didn't stop what I estimate to be thousands of cyclists from participating in a multi-hour bike ride through south Minneapolis. #Minneapolis #BikeTooter
