Working for the Weekend Warriors: Loverboy Formed in Calgary in 1979, Loverboy defined early 80s Canadian rock with their high-energy sound, tight red leather pants, and signature headbands. With massive hits like 'Turn Me Loose' and the anthem 'Working for the Weekend,' they dominated Canadian radio and won six Juno Awards in 1982 alone—a record that stood for over 30 years. #Canada #Loverboy #80sMusic #ClassicRock 🇨🇦 https://www.loudersound.com/features/loverboy-canadian-band-story

Found a page all about the history of the hexagonal-shaped electronic drum kits that were everywhere in the 1980s, and which I was musing about during #TOTP last night. https://reverb.com/news/simmons-hexagonal-kit-and-the-dawn-of-e-drums #80sMusic #drums #Simmons

Released today 39 years ago: 🇬🇧 Cabaret Voltaire "Don't Argue" – 1987 A sleek and uncompromising blend of electronic body music, industrial funk, and machine-driven dance grooves. The track replaces the band's early experimental noise with a sharper, club-oriented sound, without losing its sense of tension and unease... #cabaretvoltaire #ebm #industrial #electronicmusic #synthpop #experimentalmusic #80smusic #vinyl #music #vinylrecords #nowspinningonvinyl #nowspinning #nowlistening

Lagos All Routes https://amf.didiermary.fr/lagos-all-routes/ Lagos All Routes (Juju, Highlife, Apala and Fuji) is a compilation of Nigerian music from the mid-1960s through the early 1980s, often considered the ‘golden age’ of African popular music. In Nigerian pidgin English, ‘chop-up’ makes figurative reference to a bountiful feast. ‘Lagos All Routes’ refers to the fact that while the [...] #60smusic #70smusic #80smusic #Fuji #Highlife #JùjúMusic #Nigeria #Remixed #OldAfricanMusic

Zig Zag Band, Chigiyo https://amf.didiermary.fr/zig-zag-band-chigiyo/ Zig Zag Band, a band from Kwekwe in Zimbabwe, fused traditional Zimbabwean rhythms with reggae to produce a hybrid genre they called “Chigiyo,” based on a traditional dance from Chimanimani, in East Zimbabwe. This was one of their biggest hits: “Makatukura” is a protest track against the rich and their corrupt accumulation of wealth. […] #80smusic #Zimbabwe #Reggae

Well here's a little music fact I only just learned. In 1989, the kids' "must watch" Saturday morning BBC TV programme Multi Coloured Swap Shop banned Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark's song Enola Gay because they thought that "gay" in the title was a reference to homosexuality. #OMD #TOTP #80sMusic

Of all the Duran Duran stuff that's been posted and linked over the years, I don't think anything hits me harder than The Chauffeur. It hits me harder than anything else they did. And it's such a perfect endpoint to the album it's on. #duranduran #80smusic #newwave https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxetY6a3A1E
