@gsuberland@chaos.social @matildalove@wetdry.world @valpackett@social.treehouse.systems isn't the resistors negotiation there so someone doesn't inadvertantly plug two sources together and blow something up, i feel like thats important context (and why the A plug to C port adapters and A to A cables aren't spec compliant/kinda unsafe)
or am i reading this wrong

Has anyone here used infrared headphones?
(like the kind used by some TVs/car stereos)
Or have any schematics/plans/references?
I'm trying to build or acquire a pair (transmitter and receiver), I think I can use a microcontroller for transmit but i don't think that will cut it for receiving the (supposedly) FM signal.
(boost for reach)

@th@social.v.st @cibomahto@social.v.st @artelse@mastodon.social those are some really teeny ferrites, not coremem tiny but still kinda fun to see, esp in a place I'd probably forget to list when thinking about inductors/transformers use in common devices.

@jimedrand i understand it still exists, I was specifically referring to the *creation* of PPC and the aspirations for an "Apple Silicon" chip that led to its creation. Also PPC was a pretty welcome upgrade back in the day, it wasn't really a waste of time, it just didn't last forever and that's ok.

@lina @jimedrand i hope this doesn't sound too dumb, but wasn't powerpc the "apple silicon" of its day, due to its creation as part of the AIM (apple-ibm-motorola) partnership? I don't think they ever even let go of that dream from then until the ARM switch
