@minego@pdx.social you can also use low $fn and drill them out. It is extra pfaff to finish the part, but the holes are located and it covers both the foibles of OpenSCAD and the printer. Also, you can usually get away with using a pin vice and doing it by hand for better control.

@mwl@io.mwl.io It's surprising that you'd have to create a new EFI partition. If you were using EFI boot blocks previously, that FS should already be in place somewhere. I'd be surprised at that getting stomped by an upgrade. To check if @encthenet@flyovercountry.social is onto it being a firmware config problem, you can try pulling up the boot menu, it's usually F12 (IIRC). If you can figure out what nda0 is according to the firmware, select that. Otherwise, there might be clues in there to where your EFI partition is.

Cloud providers have a hardware failure rate, so they're always having to decommission and buy hardware. They also need to maintain a pool of idle servers so they can spin things up when they get new customers/demand. To me, the setup fee is there to keep them solvent in the face of those rising hardware costs. I don't know their internal numbers, they might be overcharging. It sucks.

@silvermoon82@wandering.shop As others have pointed out, that's a Ford Ranchero from the early 60s. My lemons team runs a '62 Ranchero as one of our cars. It's the same chassis as the Falcon Wagon of that period, and the same platform as the first Mustang (1965 MY). Aftermarket Mustang parts and modifications work on them, we've got ours setup like a vintage mustang racecar, and it's great. It did not start out great, the fully stock cars have pretty terrible suspension and steering. I like it. It's cute.

Ok, #NetBSD on Odroid M1S update: I'm setting this one down for a bit. I'm stumped by the ethernet phy and tired beating my head against it. I put in a PR for my current progress, and that's merged into the main repo. Spinning a release might be difficult (for submodule bitrot reasons), so I made a status post with release binaries: https://overeducated-redneck.net/blurgh/netbsd-on-odroid-m1s.html

I'm just going to use a USB-to-ethernet adapter for now and use the board for its intended purpose. Finally.

I learned a ton of my base sysadmin skills from studying init(8), and decided to produce a modern version of that (I learned in the 90s).

At the top of the hour, you can spin the hour hand to the correct hour, so it reads correctly per the labels all the time. (We've had self-setting analog clocks for decades now that have the electromechanical bits for this trick already inside them. My highschool had them in the 90s.)

It's a built-in that outputs nothing and exits immediately with a status of zero (effectively the same as /bin/true). So the shell parses ':> afile' as "null command with output redirected to afile"

@Blort As others have noted: the male pins are the wrong size for the dupont connector. Depending on the pin spacing, and what your end goal is, you might be able to desolder that connector and put in the right pin headers for your connector. If you are just doing a temporary bodge, then keep on bodging and leave the connector. Paper and thin cardboard might make usable shims for stabilizing the dupont connector.

That is the official definition, and why I like to call US customary units The Worst Version of the Metric System. NIST redefined everything in terms of metric units half a century ago.

@cstross@wandering.shop Apple figured out all of the interesting GUI metaphors in the 80s, and almost all the interesting stuff after that has been better graphics hardware. Trinity Desktop Environment exists, as a continuation of KDE 3.5.x, so you have some folks who agree with you exactly on Linux DEs. I'm off in the minimalist anti-DE world, and also agree with you. I was a KDE user before KDE4 and that bumpy release is what sent me into the wilderness.

@tml the control sequences may be why ADM put the labels on the keys, but the ADM 3a is why vi is the way it is. UC Berkeley used these with their PDP-11s in the late 70s and early 80s. It's literally the terminal Bill Joy used when writing ex and vi. @tilton is correct.

And also that the trigger wasn't the talk, it was Lehman Brothers, and everyone was surprised by the exact timing. There are a lot people motivated to keep this going as long as possible even with the market clearly being a bubble. I think it will pop when an ai company can't find money to make a loan or bill payment, and then all of it will collapse.

Even if this guy had good technical ability (he does not, tracking xlibre is a mistake on code quality alone), intolerance clouds one's judgement on who can have merit and actively chases away good engineers (eg: this thread is thick with examples). It's part of why ideal meritocracy doesn't exist. But ultimately, it means the reactionary dipshits will prioritize bad engineering over good, and that's a technical problem.
