I have been doing #email for just under 40 years now. FidoNet, UUCP ( lsuc!nrcaer!fts1!Latour!MCR ), ocunix.on.ca, and sandelman.*ca since. I wish the #crtc would take the do not call list seriously, and I wish the #rcmp would spend some real effort on the fraudsters. I think it is much like the Broken Window Theory: "People in the community help with crime prevention. Newman proposed that people care for and protect spaces that they feel invested in, arguing that an area is eventually safer if the people feel a sense of ownership and responsibility towards the area. Broken windows and vandalism are still prevalent because communities simply do not care about the damage.". I would take a job investigating/repairing broken internet windows.

@AskPippa eSIM. I like airolo. I maintain their Global SIM, so my second number stays the same: (a) Canadian providers suck at doing prices. (b) Receiving text and calls is usually free. (c) CDN banks never got the NIST message about how insecure SMS is, and go whole hog on it. Annoyance is group SMS breaks. Do not reply to texts from the bank, or you pay the $14 to roam that day.

I have now managed to move my desktop #devuanlinux system away from chrome to #librewolf. Wasn't that hard, just a lot of context. And passwords in chrome which my two other password managers had not been updated with. (Two. Because the old one was homebrew shell scripts. New on is pass(1))
It helped that I had many Firefox profiles for banking, media, and development. All those had been moved to #librewolf a few months ago. The kicker was that last two chrome updates seemed eat huge amounts of ram. Htop claims they were 1.3TB in size, which is nonsense, and counts shared libraries, etc.
What I would like is a tool/service that lets me send URLs from my phone to my desktop browser. "Send to devices" equivalent.

@buherator @badkeys No, they thought they were generating an ECDSA key, for which a 256 or 384 bit would be strong. But, they didn't provide the right arguments, and wound up with RSA. I think the OP posted the private key that they were able to crack trivially.

Does my #mastodon instance/account keep track of number of people who follow me (that I don't follow back) who then have their accounts killed/removed? 90% of people following me in the past few months have been real, interesting people who I definitely wanted to follow back. But, in the past few weeks it's been 90% empty accounts, which I assume are phisphing.

I get really irked at TV dramas that can't seem to read an airline schedule, or calculate time zone differences. From Death in Paradise always talking to London at the wrong time of day, to The Recruit to does DC<->Phoenix without even knowing there are time zones. Now... Departure... a movie about an air crash/tragedy... that also seems to not understand that 99% of east bound atlantic flights are overnight. Yeah, there are a FEW JFK->LON which are not, but only because it's such a huge market.

@sodiboo Technology has no volition, it can't be cool or not. It wasn't technology that was cool, it was always that the TransFurryHackers that were cool. That the moneysick were posing as cool people (and they convinced the moneysick poser media) is really just another part of their sickness.
The "500 channel universe" was never supposed to be owned/intermediated by these morons. That happened because: NAT44, Windows-too-unsafe-to-use, Incumbent-Telco-want-eyeballs-not-citizens. #ipv6 #homehosting
I keep looking for business models that would support #littlebrother community mesh networks. Best I have come up with is community backups.
