Gets a snarky reply => directly has a breakdown and lashes out. If AI "coding" is so amazing, why does it make these guys be so "on the edge" & aggressive? Shouldn't they be happy & relaxed? This proposed mindset seems to be a good explanation for many things I hear & read from AI guys. I still don't grasp how they can live with this mindset in the long term, though. C question 🙂 So far, I am super happy using a subset of C99 (I looked at some features of the later standards, and found almost nothing that I would want to use). However, looking at the GCC extensions to C, I found at least one thing that seems helpful. @sirwumpus@tilde.zone @xexyl@fosstodon.org What is your general advice for this: would you (or do you) use any C extensions from GCC or Clang? Or do you stick to pure ISO C?

Out of curiosity, I tried to find the option to turn off @ecosia@mastodon.social 's AI features. The first thing I pressed (paperclip at the bottom left of the search field) brought up this dialog. How is any of this about "safety"? How does Firefox make users more safe? Many users asked Mozilla repeatedly to either put all AI features into an optional plugin, or to offer two different browser binaries, one including AI features, the other without. They always dodged this question or weaseled themselves out of it. Instead they tried to manufacture consent for their AI strategy. This behavior does not make me feel safe with Firefox. @anildash@me.dm @reflex@retrogaming.social

More details:

The printer is a Brother HL-L5100DN series.
I did the configuration of the "Location" in the printer's Web UI (not in CUPS).
The #LinuxMint printer app only responded with "server-error-internal-error"
But in the CUPS Web UI I got a proper error message regarding the umlaut.

So the error might very well be in the Brother software, not in CUPS.

To be on the safe side, I still reported the bug to the CUPS team:

My new printer stopped working under #LinuxMint the other day. Re-adding it resulted in a general error message.

Finally found the solution:

In the printer's "location" field, I had specified "Mein Büro" ("My office" in German). And Cups does not like umlauts in that field. 😶

After removing the "ü", the printer worked.

Maybe this information will be helpful to someone, at some point. 🙂

I already made the first chapter of my game in the C# engine. But since fell in love so deeply with writing plain C again, I also want to use it for my passion project. Hence the rewrite. But it is not a 1 to 1 reimplementation. I have learned so much from my C# version that I can now use to make a much better engine. @AgateDragon@mastodon.gamedev.place

No worries, I love to talk about things like that! 😊 I am using only SDL. And the engine is specifically for point & click adventures. But for many aspects I am writing small & general libraries that I can re-use for other projects (super satisfying to do so! 🧡). (I have a finished version of the engine I wrote with C# & MonoGame, with custom scripting language, but now re-writing everything with C & SDL) How are you making use of OpenGL in addition to SDL? @AgateDragon@mastodon.gamedev.place
