Okay, so I now have code written in Idris 2 and running on seL4. Next steps are to begin modeling seL4 within Idris 2 so I can start writing drivers and the like. Gotta do a little planning.

Might also take a pause to get the careful.party server set up enough to begin inviting people in. I want to share my code, but I'm trying to feel out a post-FLOSS method of doing so as I go. The minimal route I see is through a sort of tilde server with services secured via Wireguard.

Well, neat. I just got Hello World from a program written in Idris2 running on top of the seL4 kernel in qemu!

Took a little time to clear my head, realized my Idris runtime was probably just linking against the wrong GMP, got it sorted, and now it works. Abusing CMake via a string of "execute_process" commands to make it work, but hey, it works.

Otherwise you're just experiencing a temporary gain from the lag between a change in output and your employer's expectations. You'll find yourself right back where you were in short order if you don't change the balance of power fundamentally. There are no technical solutions to that issue.

@duke_of_germany@mastodon.gamedev.place @MaddieM4@raphus.social I've interacted with one of these in real life, and he held these two things to be true: one, the quality of his code basically doesn't matter because the product his company sells is pointless anyway. Two, only people who can "do the work of a thousand programmers" will get to keep their jobs. Basically it's rooted in a mindset of being completely detached from material reality. To paraphrase, "nothing needs to work and you need to make as much of it as possible."

In short: Tailscale seems fine, but there's an anticapitalist, "dual power" bent to the network I'm contemplating; depending on Tailscale starts to feel a bit like an additional point of vulnerability to me. I'm also going to want to write membership management software that reflects whatever governing structure we wind up with, which means at some point I'd be likely to find myself having to work around abstractions that may not be a good fit.

The behavior of Iran versus the US in this war has been bringing this to mind for me quite often as of late.

On reflection, I'm a bit embarrassed at how "I must make sure these knobs are perfectly spaced" somehow became "I must write code to create a 3D printed drill guide with evenly-spaced holes." Sure, pencil-and-ruler is less precise, but you don't *need* that kind of precision for knob spacing.

Laptop stopped charging a couple days ago. Put a damper on things, but managed without it. Made good progress on my projects anyway using the Steam Deck (for designing and slicing a couple audio jack collars for the 3D printer) and lower-tech, pencil-and-ruler methods.
