@serigala_tropis@lgbtqia.space @elementary@mastodon.social I'm guessing this is in response to Linus' latest meltdown, summarized here: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2026/07/linux-creator-linus-torvalds-puts-foot-down-on-anti-ai-comments/

@peter_mcmahan@mas.to @maxheadroom@hub.uckermark.social @tante@tldr.nettime.org this is what i was hoping would happen with the KDE discussion at https://discuss.kde.org/t/sorry-to-bring-up-a-contentious-topic-kde-ai-llm-policy/46333 (set a policy and enforce it as much as possible) but it seems like they took the opposite stance of "we can't ever know for sure if people are using it, so there's nothing we can do." kind of a bummer really

@tpfto@mathstodon.xyz @lunarloony@dosgame.club @ifixcoinops@retro.social so i had a thought and basically made a web page in LibreOffice: https://is.nota.live/@beaiouns/116795099501164013
It's not perfect but at least it feels like the 90s

@lunarloony@dosgame.club @ifixcoinops@retro.social lol same, I mean it's gotta be multiple days since the last time an npm vulnerability made the news, right?
I've just been doing mine in whatever text editor's around, but back to Dan's point, it was a bit more fun when everyone I knew had a MySpace or a Livejournal or a Gaia Online page full of goofy shit

@siege@masto.hackers.town this comment came up as i was watching the Mr. Rogers episode where he's like "I'm not very good at it [drawing], but it doesn't matter, it's the fun of doing it that's important"
MFs wanna skip that part

@RickiTarr I miss being in awe of some new thing I learned for the first time. It still happens, but not as much as it used to. Wandering around figuring out how stuff works and having it finally click is amazing.
The best part about being old is how much easier it is to mess with people, because a lot of folks don't remember all the dumb jokes I steal from TV shows and movies.

The book that I ordered from @firestorm@kolektiva.social came in today, with goodies! A bookmark, a couple of stickers, and a ZINE! I can't remember the last time I saw a real zine. I can't wait to read these!

@luxliquida @Craigp maybe Krita would be good for photo editing? I pretty much only use it for MS Paint style stuff, but that's what I was using gimp for too. Both have a lot of buttons that I haven't learned about yet

@iFixit So I had a "new to me" refurbished mini PC that had an m.2 slot for a WiFi card, but no WiFi card in the slot. I also had a dead laptop that had a WiFi card, but the antennas were *inside* the computer (wrapped around the outside of the display in the top half of the laptop). Fortunately, there was a teardown guide for that specific laptop on your website, and I had both a screwdriver and a spudger handy. After following the guide, I was able to disassemble enough of the laptop to remove the antennas without damaging them, and was able to stick them in the new mini PC to get it up on the WiFi network. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon!

@meganL i know i'm preaching to the choir, but i think that everyone should read Mood Machine: The Rise of Spotify and the Costs of the Perfect Playlist by Liz Pelly. most of the things people hate about spotify are in chapter 1, and the rest of the book is "and then it got worse"
