@edgeofeurope@mastodon.social I know what you mean though, my original post didn’t take that into account at all, obviously the “baseline” should be different from country to country and as someone else pointed out, temperature can be very subjective based on location and external factors. Nevertheless there has to be something we can collectively do 😩

I remember being in the Death Valley years ago, and the air was so dry that the heat, even in a van with no AC, didn’t bother me as much as the sticky asphalt heat of New York or Vienna. Generally also being by the coast, while humid, can also be “refreshing” because of the wind. :)

@edgeofeurope@mastodon.social and while I agree that parts of the southern regions are more used to higher temperatures (and I still remember as a kid hearing on the news that people were dying in the heat every year) the temp average rising year by year still takes a toll on the population, and governments aren’t doing anything about it.

@katafrakt@ruby.social I had no idea about that regulation forbidding work in offices *under* a certain temperature! TIL And yep I totally agree with you. It also seems a bit easier to counter cold temperatures indoors (by wearing thicker clothing, using blankets, hot water bottles, etc) than hot temperatures. Past a certain temperature my brain just doesn’t want to think anymore 🥵

Here’s a thought on the current heatwave that is absolutely destroying humankind across Europe atm: maybe we should push for a regulation to allow people — ALL people — to stop working in temperatures above 30C. The economy would collapse and finally politicians would take fighting the climate crisis as a priority, rather than leaning into the bullshit narrative that “summer is summer” from their air-conditioned ivory towers.

I just tried to explain to my husband that one of the reasons why I love knitting so much and why it feels so natural to me is that it's not just creative, it also appeals to the analytical / systems thinking part of my brain.

And then I gave the example of how the knitting pattern I'm using is somewhat badly written (no shade, it's fine, it's a free pattern): “like very verbose code, basically written out line by line instead of refactoring it with if statements and while loops” 😂 😂 😂

I also think that some types of people (don’t know if it’s a neurodivergent thing or a perfectionist / type A personality trait) feel the need to find “the perfect route” and optimise (stuff like time of arrival, proximity to places / a specific area, etc). Planning trips is an absolute nightmare for me for that reason bc I’ll spend literally hours rethinking my choices and wondering if it was the best choice I could have made or if there was a way to optimise it 😭🥲

Birthdays are a big, emotional thing for me. I don't really want to make a big deal out of them, because “it's just a birthday”, but I love celebrating other people & making them feel special. When I was a kid, my parents forgot my birthday once and I never thought it was a big deal (they laughed it off) until I became a mom and realised that I would never in a million years forget my child's birthday. So this year I wanted to do something spontaneous with my daughter but also...I'm tired

I'm... so tired.

I'm so tired lately that it took me weeks to decide whether or not I want to be in Berlin for my birthday weekend, even though I'd been entertaining this idea for the last year 😭
I'm completely paralysed at the thought of making any decision at the moment. I just want someone to come here & handle all the decision-making for me for the next 3–6 months 😭

Does anyone feel the same? Is this just ... life? Or is this the cost of having constant information thrown at you 😩
