Transportation requires massive investment to switch to electricity.
A lot of chemistry runs on oil processing byproducts or oil itself and can not switch away at all. For instance we’ve got so much cheap plastic because it’s a byproduct. If we stop pumping oil for fuel plastic will become extremely expensive. It might be beneficial in the long run (better recycling, use of other better materials) but it would require a global production chain reshaping. It can’t be done in months.

DATA STORAGE
Why don’t you consider a hosted solution? Say, Hetzner has Storage Box. It gives you some TBs of storage for not much money. It’s accessible over network by a whole bunch of protocols.
It handles backups, redundancy, etc. It’s easy to upgrade if you run out of space.
Total cost of ownership is probably comparable.

A single right click registers as two button-down events, then two button-up events, then again two button-down events, and finally two button-up events.
This is weird. My logitec mouse developed a very similar behavior as of few months ago. Single clicks register way too often as double clicks. I haven’t sniffed usb packets to confirm it’s exactly the same sequence as yours.

It’s a phased roll out. The first stage looks a lot like RLHF to me. AI decisions are gonna be reviewed by licensed physician before granting prescription and the target is > 98% agreement rate in the first 250 cases and > 99% in the next 1000.
It targets “non-controlled, maintenance psychiatric medications, such as SSRIs for depression and anxiety”. And inly renewals. No new prescriptions or dosage changes.
They already do this with some 200 common meds.
All this seems to point to the nature of prescriptions in these cases. It’s all just busywork. The meds should be available over the counter and prescriptions should have no set term limit. The list of meds is not in the press release and I’m too lazy to go look for it but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case in other countries already.

A few notes.
IP’s gonna stay unaddressed. That ship has sailed and no one’s punished. We’ve seen a settlement from Anthropic. There maybe’s gonna be one or two more settlements and that like the best we’re gonna see.
Decision to integrate AI everywhere is not an engineering one. It’s a sales move in an attempt to attract investment. Basically a gamble. I personally believe that about 50% of AI integrations is nothing but the copy on the home page. Other 30% is just some sort of ai chat with minimal exposure to the actual data and only like 20% is more or less proper LLM integration (regardless of usefulness) for some sort of product feature.

I’m personally OK with changes in design as technology permits. I mean, our filmmaking technology. Say, canonically the og Star Trek if 10 years after Discovery but og Enterprise is all analog buttons and signal lights while Discovery bridge is all touchscreens and holograms.
That said, I think you’ll like Badlands.

I’m low-key looking for a job right now and my feeling doesn’t match the article.
For one, there used to be a lot of openings 5 years ago. Places like WeWorkRemotely used to overflow with rails/ruby jobs. Now it has 1. Job board on the rails site has 20.
Now, the article is incorrect that remote is standard. Many big companies stopped doing that. They have big offices and want them to work. E.g. GitHub used to offer a lot of remote. Now only a handful of openings. Same goes for other big Rails companies like Shopify, etc. At best they give you a hybrid option.
Then article goes to contradict itself by saying that remote is there because big cos don’t want to pay SanFran/London salaries. First, London is already like half of SanFran in a good day. Then you look at the rest of UK and it’s maybe £70k ($90k) which is not too bad but rare. If you got Spain/Portugal you’re firmly in $50k territory. You go to Eastern Europe and ugh. I saw opening in Baltics (which is EU) for like $35k/y. Big oof.
I haven’t seen a single opening for a greenfield rails project. Which means no Solid Queue because they already have chosen a background job infra a decade ago and it’s most likely Sidekiq. Same goes for most newer rails features. I saw Hotwire a few times but react dominates.
Another tendency is that classically rails shops are switching away from rails. Many still run rails in production but most new work is done in something else. Most often go and python. Python of all things! You go to UsingRails.com and a solid half of the companies have openings for anything but ruby/rails.
Rails is a great framework. I’d even wager the best web framework out there but it’s clearly on its way out. Which is a shame.

My current thinking is that focusing on the ai involvement is counter-productive. It was always easy to hide ai involvement. Like, just don't tell it was an ai code and people would think you're just bad at programming. Non matter how much we all wish ai bubble burst the tools are here and probably are gonna be around for a little while and will probably improve even further. So it will become even easier to hide ai involvement. I think it's better to focus on the quality of contributions and emphasise human understanding of the contributions. This effectively covers both ai slop and bad contributions by humans.
In a way ai code is like cgi in movies. We hear complaining about bad cgi all the time but it turns out when cgi is good no one notices, and people even like what they see. BTW, movie people learned to distance themselves from cgi, you can find many accounts where producers said there was no cgi when in fact there was a lot of it. It just was good so people didn't notice and didn't complain. Developers will learn to do the same.
And it kinda sucks. I fully acknowledge the ethical concerns of how ai came about and environmental impact of using ai. I understand those who're opposing ai on those grounds. Though, I'm afraid they're gonna be severely disappointed when they're gonna be tricked to use ai-produced code specifically because they’ll train ai users to hide ai usage by their severe reaction.

It does provide some additional clarity but not much closure.
For one, even though you speak for the organisation, it's only you speaking. People who were directly involved and made the mistakes did not come forward so far. And even then it's only admission of mistakes. There’s not even a symbolic apology. But also apparently no concrete plans to change anything.
Another thing not covered here is how rubygems ended up in ruby org. What’s RC's ivolvement with it now?

This is remarkably little information for the amount of text.
Though, they at least half-heartedly admit some of the failures in the whole story.
They also say “This created confusion and frustration, and we take responsibility for that.” This is the only admission. The fact that they're responsible for their actions is self-evident, though. Also note that no apology follows, they merely acknowledge the fact.
So apart from the whole lot of nothing this is an announcement of “a detailed incident report” that will be released next week. I suspect it will not answer even half the questions that were risen, likely more failures will be revealed and more questions will be asked most—if not all—of which will have no answer.
