@jasongorman you click on one David Hasselhoff news article, and suddenly you get Hasselhoff ads and articles pushed at you for the next 6 months. Sometimes it’s not even a clic, it’s lingering with a link on your screen for too long.

I mean even if I like the Hoff, I’d don’t need him pushed into my life like that.

@Schneems I posted a snarky response to the other RC sponsorship post today, but deleted it after reading this.

I’m not forgetting, but with the executive director gone I can start to feel that right decisions will be made. I have nothing against her as a person, but I do think her leadership was poor in her tenure, leading to the fracture. There’s nothing today’s RC can do about that now.

So, rather than being snarky, I will be silent/not a detractor, and privately root for this turnaround.

Realistically I think AI is creating security vulnerabilities that are huge, glaring problems far outpacing the vulnerabilities they are catching.

Remember Moltbook, for example?

I really need to start meditating again.

It’s weird how some obviously-positive habits can be hard for me to keep.

@esparta@ruby.social good article, bad headline. Honestly this was a major step towards healing because Schneems didn’t weasel out of explaining what happened

@Schneems This doesn’t change my viewpoint much about what happened, but is the most transparency we’ve gotten from RC about the fracture, thank you for that.

@Schneems thanks you for writing this.

I have a couple more questions.

Give the connection between github access and the production system, why wasn’t that addressed directly by taking technical measures to separate that? It seems like that’s where RC feels like they own the org, and from many peoples’ POVs they don’t.

Given that connection, how does it make sense to pass org ownership to Matz / Ruby Core?

If this was a legal thing about Andre/logs, why not send him a legal notice “don’t”?

I have been binge watching Tojima Wants To Be a Kamen Rider, and I don’t know why I’m hooked but I am.

The riders fight each other more than Shocker. I think the background music contributes bigly to my enjoyment.

It’s so cheesy but charming also.

Conventional commit format sucks. What you really want is to use git trailers. The subject line of a commit message is PRIME real estate, and shouldn't be wasted on tools

I’m not sure how to respond to well-meaning peoples’ AI PRs. I was looking at an RSpec one, and… it needs a lot of work. That work becomes the reviewer’s, though, and I would almost end up rewriting it myself. I’m glad I am only on the periphery of this stuff

A random communication "trick" I've been working on for years is to replace my usage of the word "but" with "and". Avoiding negation feels much clearer, because you come across as less-conflicted. Give it a try.

For example:

We need to frobulate, but that means bingaling

-->

We need to frobulate, and that means bingaling
