@jon@gruene.social I went to Oslo recently, and yes, using the Entur app was really nice! No fluff, easy to use, and relatively easy to buy a ticket from! And furthermore, a ton of quality of life features, like GPS tracking of busses, step-by step guidance for complex multimodal travels and being able to buy multiple day tickets on the same phone. As I couldn't install the app (ungoogled Android), the only issue I encountered was when I tried to buy a 7-days ticket from a kiosk, it didn't allow me. I had to go the agency at Oslo S and get a plastic NFC card.

I wrote my first line of code in Visual Basic around age 8 or 9 under the guidance of my grandfather, then started to fiddle around on my own computers when I was 10 yo. I then continued to learn programming online as a teenager, followed by a full migration to linux. I can't imagine how different my life would have been if I had to wait 10 more years before learning so much about computers.

@mmalc As I said, I haven't looked at the EN IEC norm, so I can't say for sure if any marking will be mandatory for cables (which isn't as per USB if specifications, but the EN IEC might differ). As for the cable, once you have a good one, you can reuse it on all devices. Sure, it might get a few tries to get a proper one, but the other EU consumer laws allows to return the ones who don't work or lie on the packaging (or if you just don't like their color, too).

@geoffl nothing prevents them from supporting other protocols alongside USB PD. However if you have a USB PD device that won't negotiate with your charger or vice-versa, then one of the three products involved is lying on its capabilities and at least one the charger/device side is illegal to sell.

@geoffl @mmalc @raymaccarthy @EUCommission @jnfingerle When you're dealing with that much power (up to 240W) it's indeed smart for the charger to check that the cable is actually rated accordingly, rather than burning your house down. As for the protocol, it *must* be USB PD, super simple, no fiddling around. The only drawback might be the markings (as the USB if is quite bad at this), though from a quick glance at the law it seems that it's being worked on (at least for the chargers).

It however improves the overall user experience, by e.g requiring a single charger and cable for your iPhone, your partner's Pixel and your daughter's Kindle. Different product categories will obviously still require different charging bricks due power requirements.

@the_wub @nixCraft Because it allows someone who inherited an Apple laptop (or got a second hand one for cheap) to use it with a free operating system without having to suffer the Apple ecosystem. Also Apple hardware is quite reliable, and a much better deal than cheap ARM tablets or laptops from miscellanous manufacturers.

@Horschtel @stim3on The main engine of the SLS uses Hydro-Lox (liquid hydrogen + liquid oxygen) as a propellant, which produces almost exclusively water vapor during combustion. The only slightly problematic part are the Aluminium perchlorate boosters, which produce CO2, aluminium oxide and hydrogen chloride (which combines with water into hydrochloridric acid, the same as we have in our stomach, and causes the visual plume). Because the boosters' combustion happens in the lower atmoshpere, the exhaust particules can fall down back to earth where they get diluted. It's much less of a concern than re-entering satellites, whose combustion creates much more problematic compounds that remain in the higher atmosphere, probably for decades.

En dehors de ça, le protocole en lui même n'a pas vraiment été pensé avec le chiffrement en tête, ce qui fait qu'une quantité monstrueuse de (méta)données circulent en clair, notamment tous les messages de gestion du chat (!).
