@60sRefugee@spacey.space I know your are being cheeky, but I literally don't think it would be worse in any way. The whole world would need a period of communism. At least until we eat this new paedophile aristocracy. @davidtheeviloverlord@mastodon.social @typeswitch@gamedev.lgbt

@davidtheeviloverlord@mastodon.social It's not tech-bros. They are just normal people. Normal insecure dumbasses like everyone else. It's just capitalism. You don't survive if you are not an aggressive lying sob and there is no accountability if you are. That's it. @typeswitch@gamedev.lgbt

@SomeVeganCheeseIsOk@mastodon.social It's not a marketing term. We have always used this term. There was no marketing team involved. Humans need words to describe certain stuff. When we do choose those words those words are assigned that meaning. It's linguistics, it has nothing to do with who you think is a good or bad guy or what a certain group might like or not. In certain times words can change or the meaning of words can change. But in this case it's pretty clear I think. @xvf17@sfba.social @emilymbender@dair-community.social

@theadhocracy@indieweb.social Not at all. You can freely browse the web or ask a chat who coined the term and why. It will be an interesting read I can assure you and you will understand that ai is not meant to refer to a specific human level intelligence like you mean. It wouldn't make sense at that time anyway. @xvf17@sfba.social @SomeVeganCheeseIsOk@mastodon.social @emilymbender@dair-community.social

@SomeVeganCheeseIsOk@mastodon.social It's not a marketing term. It's an old term that people have been using for a while. And I don't think it's ever been used to describe a machine person that's alive. It was always used as simulated intelligence. Which LLMs are. It's a very good description. @xvf17@sfba.social @emilymbender@dair-community.social

@xvf17@sfba.social As far as I know AI was coined as simulated intelligence. I think LLMs are exactly that. Ai is a term that we used to describe a bunch of systems. Chess engines, opponents in video games,... Now LLMs. Perhaps someday when we have even better systems we will call them ai, but for now ai seems to fit LLMs completely. @SomeVeganCheeseIsOk@mastodon.social @emilymbender@dair-community.social

#selfhosting #linux #ai

It has become way easy to do computer stuff with AI.
I always wanted to set up a server and put all my stuff there, web page, media server, self hosted apps...
Work, family, mountains, ... I had no time to figure it out for myself before ai. But now I'm doing it! Bought a 200€ 12th gen Intel and first was Jellyfin! Brilliant!
I use cloudflare for outside access, as I don't have a public IP. I thought of getting it, but maybe cloudflare helps with security too?

@gerrymcgovern@mastodon.green How can it be 9gw electricity, but 16gw thermal load? 9gw would require like 6 medium size nuclear power plants, not a gas power plant. Crazy numbers. Ai is the holy grail, but at this cost and no idea if it's even going anywhere. It's like the train has started, everybody is burning fuel to go as far as possible, but is the train even pointed at the right direction?

Wow. Ukrainians are back patrolling in Mariupol. Not by foot, but by drones. Over 160km from the frontline, they are destroying Russian military vehicles. Crazy and it's going to only get worse for Russians, much worse.

Russians have lost this war at the moment it was clear this isn't going to be a short operation. But now they will really get recked.

@theleftistlawyer After such a long time of being a genocidal state, the citizens become complicit. I don't directly blame Jews for this, but the Jews in Israel I do, because most of them seem to support the genocide. That is not surprising since the military service there is mandatory, so for every single Israeli, one must wonder what kind of crimes against humanity are they a part of.

Turns out the internet was a cesspool of disinformation before ai appeared. It was also a lot less "cheerful".

@sjn@chaos.social That's a silly and pointless poll. Of course it's not the same quality. It's like asking if people think a 5k€ suit worked on by a tailor for two weeks is the same, better or worse quality than a 50€ from HM . What do you think? Point of automatization is producing products at speed and price for the quality that is good enough. Not quality alone.

@preya Computer games and the software supporting them are probably the activity and as an industry that have benefited ai the most. Not only because of the rapid GPU advancement, but also because of ai upscaling that make consoles like this steam machine viable, and also because it has never been easier to develop computer games because of ai - code and graphics. It's great that they left it in the background and focused on the product!
