@rye@ioc.exchange You can use button elements with dialog elements to do something similar. Wrap the image in a button that triggers the dialog with (from memory) commandfor, and that should get handled without JS. However, in most cases you'll still need JS for accessibility purposes. It's possible that the new invoker stuff is okay at inferring relationships, but I wouldn't rely on it, so if you need to make this work for most people, JS is still required (as with most interactive patterns).

Not simulated intelligence. That feels like a real "moving the goalposts" moment. AI as it has historically/originally been used is referencing a legitimate, non-organic intelligence. LLMs are smoke and mirrors, when it comes to intelligence. There is no cognition, no understand. Personally, I prefer GenAI over scare quotes, but both are more accurate than LLM = AI

Feels like doing something "indie" (as in by and for yourself) is pretty far divorced from the mass-theft, hyper-capitalist, ecocide machines 😅 Sure you can run local models, but they're still trained on stolen work (including a lot of indiewebbers work) and they're still overkill, inefficient versions of existing solutions that don't require this much overhead. Given that KISS and MUIH are common indieweb principles, not sure how that fits?

@dank@jorts.horse Maybe I'm misunderstanding then, or maybe I'm just out of the loop on European culture 😅 There's a lot of countries and I don't know how May Day is celebrated in all of them. But from my experience, those countries that celebrate May Day in Europe are celebrating the original version, not the US labour-movement one. So claiming its a "staple of European culture" feels weird, when it's a different thing. Or am I wide of the mark here?

@dank@jorts.horse Except that's the wrong May Day. In the UK (and afaik most of mainland Europe), May 1st being a holiday is older than the USA, let alone Chicago.
