West-nile virus has been detected in Atlanta mosquitos. News says that cases are increasing early this year across the country (according to CDC but I cannot find source). My recollection is that it normally gets detected in mosquitos around here in late summer. I'm always happy to have more money in my pocket, but $500 is nothing compared to spending months in a filthy, dangerous jail without being convicted of a crime. Their priority should be getting rid of the backlog in the court system and assuring that every suspect has competent legal services.

The pseudo-libertarian rhetoric is painful.

@2003MugishaPhocit@mastodon.social Hi. I've planted a few native trees (redbud, blackgum, river birch), and other than that have some berry bushes, a small flowerbed and vegetable garden. For the flowerbed, I'm focused more on wildlife than showy flowers, so I spread a seed mix each year. This year I did the 'pollinators' mix from Botanical Interests. https://www.botanicalinterests.com/products/precious-pollinators-flower-mix-seeds?srsltid=AfmBOopuWkRqaeDW-4rlWYIt77b5dyqiy8U1lLhMKp5jnVxcxsHx5jmO I get a good mix of insects, birds, and anoles from these mixes, and many flowers will come back next year (from seeds or roots), giving some flowers by April. I've also used the Hummingbird and Butterfly mixes from Botanical Interests. In the future, I may put more effort into finding seed mixes that are better suited for local wildlife, maybe through resources like the Xerces society. https://xerces.org/ cheers!

GA District 14 special election (Greene's seat) will go to a runoff in April, with Sean Harris (37%) and Clay Fuller (35%). All together, Harris and two other Democrats got 40% of the vote. An independent and a Libertarian candidate each got 0.25%, and the rest voted for various Republicans.

Everyone tell your kids that Henry David Thoreau invented the term "brain rot" in 1854.

There may be no lineal relationship to the modern use, but Thoreau's "Walden" apparently contains the earliest use of the term, with the same basic meaning as today. And they should know about him.
