@leggy2fast@meow.social I think I can relate some. My grandfather is in failing health. I love my family and I'm grateful for opportunities to visit them.
But I'm physically there I just feel trapped. I have to mask a lot more in day-to-day interactions. It feels less safe to be myself. Plus it takes like thirty minutes of driving in traffic to get _anywhere_.
There are no easy answers. I'm sorry.

Issue tracker pile-ons are another side effect of the GitHub monopoly. Before that it was rare that you could just open any random open source bug report and leave your two cents with no extra steps.
Remember last year when libxml2 stopped giving security bug reports any special treatment because they were volunteers who weren't set up to do that? And that was even before the recent trend of LLMs helping with security reports.
It's interesting to compare and contrast how that played out versus how rsync is handling it.
What I've consistently heard is that CEOs are all-in on genAI because investors are.
It feels like they're sacrificing their small bets to improve the odds for their big bets. They're salivating over the chance of a giant payout from Anthropic or OpenAI so they're using all their other investments to induce demand for those companies.
We know most investments fail and investors make up for it with the very occasional jackpot. I'm not sure if that was ever really innocent but it's *really* not innocent if they start putting their thumb on the scales to try to pick winners. At that point they literally have no reason to care about what else gets destroyed in the process.

I think I've made this post before, but: another missed opportunity for the Star Fox remake is building on the original SNES soundtrack.
Star Fox 64's soundtrack is great but stylistically it's pretty standard movie orchestra fare. Star Fox is this wild synth-rock orchestra mashup that still feels fresh and underexplored all these years later. There's a good reason there's thirty hojillion remixes of the original Corneria track! More of that please.

This came on in the shower and at first I was like "okay sure" but then the transition was so thematic and well-done I had to rush to get out and figure out who did it
Problem: You have a repository with a package-building script and a package-publishing script. After a successful build, you want to execute the publishing script on the public server. But how do you keep it sync with the source repository?
One idea: the push version of `curl | sh`:
ssh packages.example bash -s -- arg1 arg2 …

@wheeljack@weird.autos The Ioniq 5 and 6 are oookayyy? Basically there's a screen along the top of the center dash, it's more screen than you need but pretty comparable to modern ICE cars, nothing like a Tesla.

@tilton I used to check lobste.rs pretty regularly but it sucks the way commenters will accuse a post of being AI-written based on, like, having headers, or even just a single turn of phrase.

@frosty@furry.engineer That's good. I wonder if the kernel's patched or if there are already mitigations in place like seccomp, either in F44 or at the VM layer. But still, the less exploitable the better.
But this is the thing, I kind of want to test out of curiosity, but I work on so many different environments I can't really trust any small number of tests is representative of my fleet.

@tilton I know someone who's trying to retire in his forties. And he's on track to do it, which, good for him. But he's made a lot of personal sacrifices to work to do it. I occasionally remind him this is only a good plan if you live long enough to enjoy it, and unfortunately none of us can take that for granted.

@cwebber@social.coop My understanding is that a lot of advertising traffic has been untethered from real human browsing for a while. (e.g., the Facebook video stats that were fake and destroyed a lot of journalism) I guess agents are giving them a convenient excuse to justify this.
