If you're running an updated version of a supported Fedora release, you ought to be safe. The fix was introduced in 6.19.12, and f42, f43 and f44 are all above that now. I suspect most major Linux distribution maintainers have already released kernel packages that patch the bug. (I've confirmed that the exploit doesn't work on my fully upgraded F44 systems.)

I upgraded the two set-top Fedora boxes (running atomic Kinoite) with no issues, AND the MacBook (running Asahi Remix) is also running smooth as silk. Only my main desktop is not upgraded yet because I’m running ZFS-on-root and believe I need to wait for updated binaries, which are likely coming out later this week after the official F44 release on Tuesday.

So far I don't notice any differences in the way the laptop functions between F43 and F44. Even after replacing SDDM with Plasma Login Manager (PLM) it all looks and behaves the same on the surface.

Apropos of nothing, I was reminded tonight of a stellar cocktail bar tucked away in Gamla Stan (of Stockholm) in Sweden. It sticks in my mind as a highlight in Stockholm. Absolutely magical cocktails. Looking at their 2026 menu, I'm still blown away.

SciShow has partnered up with Maya Higa, from Alveus Sanctuary, to tell an uncharacteristically long-form[^1] story about the 1925 Nome Diptheria outbreak and why the Nome Serum run was so improbable. It also features interviews with Blair Braverman, herself an Iditarod musher, and Dr. Heather Huson, who worked with sled dogs and became an animal genetecist. It tells the story of some of the mushers as well as some very good boys and girls.

Spent nearly all of the day yesterday at our office north of Boston helping a colleague from Cali move the network room, for my part firewalls and DNS appliances.

At dinner it was suggested that we try out this hot pot/KBBQ place in So Nashua. You order ingredients on a tablet and they bring it to your table. It was a little loud and hectic but also Friday night. Still, I would go back there again.

Got home just as the clock struck midnight. And I have two remote changes this weekend from other projects. Thinking I’ll take a day or two off this week to compensate myself.

@keirFox @rakslice It’s not AMD either, as the corpo laptop is Intel through and through. Doubtful it’s Thunderbolt, too, as the L15 is AMD and doesn’t support TB. I will say this doesn’t happen 98% of the time, but it just happened when I came home from the cafe and cabled up to the dock.

I have dry, bare spots in my uncovered driveway... next to three-foot snow drifts. I can see most of the passenger side of my car, except for the front door, which is blocked up to the window.

I have icicles sticking out snow drifts hanging off my gutter.

The city plow couldn't find the border between the sidewalk and the road and unintentionally plowed almost my entire front sidewalk. (Thanks!)

We didn't get nearly as much snow as folks feared. I'd say we got maybe 12 inches, on the low end of what was predicted for this area. But wow, the winds were insane and created the areas of snow feast and famine across my property.
