It adds a whooping 1 oz to your bike) and wait for people to move or acknowledge they heard you, and say “thanks" as you pass, you will get TONS of smiles and spontaneous thank yous from virtually ALL demographics.   As w/other oppressions: patriarchy normalizes domination by some as THE main strategy for living. As it brainwashes people, it makes utter idiots out of what could be decent humans. Far too many people don’t even know -how many ways they buy into it- and help the world remain androcentric. It is a huge driver of these poly-crises all ideologies based in “might makes right” stunt people. but they allow those prone to greed into utter monsters.

  I finally got around to Lerner’s The Creation of Patriarchy (1986), and wow. This excellent book launched the whole field of Women’s History- with cause. The beginning and end are where things really shine (imo). As with many books, the middle of it is full of (brutal) specific historical receipts which support the assertions she makes. Even if you think you know patriarchy, you’ll learn stuff. It was written in 1986, so there are a couple of ways she buys into ideas about “progress” that 1/2

Imo: the first one was worth reading, but this one is Krugman (who has a -large- audience) and as is often case, his framing often still lags: he says climate scientists should be applauded but are “reviled” Thing is they are not at all reviled by folks with critical thinking skills intact, ya know? They have been demonized by…stunted people, chasing money and power over others. which again, just isn’t emotionally healthy.
