Skills for introspection don't appear in any of us fully formed. They require practice and familiarity. And they are crucial in order to make and have good judgement*. They also involve a good deal of emotional content, signals you get and then have to decode accurately and take into consideration at appropriate levels.
What if as a kid onwards, you're told that emotions are suspect or not important?
