I finally got around to Lerner’s The Creation of Patriarchy (1986), and wow. This excellent book launched the whole field of Women’s History- with cause. The beginning and end are where things really shine (imo). As with many books, the middle of it is full of (brutal) specific historical receipts which support the assertions she makes. Even if you think you know patriarchy, you’ll learn stuff. It was written in 1986, so there are a couple of ways she buys into ideas about “progress” that 1/2
