@xxv@mastodon.social Very cool. When I was a kid, my uncle painted all of the planets, the moon, and stars on the walls of my play room with glow in the dark paint (with a dark blue background) and my mom put a black light in the ceiling fixture.

@xxv@mastodon.social That looks amazing! Everyone needs a moon IMO. Not to be an enabler, but I bought this 3D printed lamp last year and I love it still. https://sauropods.win/@futurebird/114130046254404927

@xxv@mastodon.social Fantastic! Your son's desire for the moon reminds me of a James Thurber children's book "Many Moons". I loved that book when I was little. Even though it's very old, you might be able to find a copy. Wikipedia link to what the book is about: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many_Moons

@xxv@mastodon.social This is wonderful! A moon right on your bedroom ceiling! Also, a child asking for the moon made me think of the James Thurber story "Many Moons".

@xxv@mastodon.social online stores in my region show a lot of knock off products in this category. What should I look for in the specs (or whatever other parameters help) when searching for one to buy?

@xxv@mastodon.social Wonderful idea! Many Germans will probably think of your kid as "Kleiner Häwelmann", which is from a 19th century fairy tale of the same name, about a small boy who wants to go to the moon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_kleine_H%C3%A4welmann) He might also like the story of "Peterchens Mondfahrt" ("Little Peter's Journey to the Moon"), where two siblings travel to the moon to recover the lost leg of a may beetle (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Peter%27s_Journey_to_the_Moon).

@xxv@mastodon.social It’s fun that this child likes and is following the Moon. The moon is an amazing object for earth dwellers to consider its phases, disappearances and fullness. Tidal phenomena are also quite interesting. Do you ilve near a large body of water?

@xxv@mastodon.social Perhaps, as in Carl Sagan‘s Contact, something important comes out of this — «The narrative begins with a series of flashbacks detailing the formative years of Dr. Eleanor “Ellie” Arroway. From a young age, she exhibits a profound curiosity about science and the cosmos, from learning to read as a toddler and repairing a radio as a young child to pursuing a lifelong fascination with the stars. Encouraged by her father, Theodore Arroway, she avidly pursues her intellectual interests.» (The quote is from a summary of the 1985 book, https://www[.]supersummary[.]com/contact-carl-sagan/summary/)

@xxv@mastodon.social my kid would have loved this at that age! They were constantly on about the moon but nights that were cloudy or not visible were a problem. Well done. That is awesome.
