@zanchey@aus.social I showed this to my wife. She read it. Was silent for a moment, then uttered a soft, mournful sigh.

@zanchey@aus.social @osma@mas.to We are introducing (Microsoft) GitHub Enterprise Server at university. Github have teams https://docs.github.com/en/enterprise-server@3.17/organizations/organizing-members-into-teams/about-teams which has nothing to do with teams in Teams. One might connect a idp group (from scim) https://docs.github.com/en/enterprise-server@3.17/organizations/organizing-members-into-teams/synchronizing-a-team-with-an-identity-provider-group but that doesn't happen automatically. And teams might be called the same in different GH Organizations but mapped to different groups.

@zanchey@aus.social my particular favourite was Microsoft’s same-same-but-different phase, when we had Skype for Business which wasn’t the same as Skype; Onedrive for Business which was only partly related to OneDrive and SharePoint Workspace which was totally not the same thing as SharePoint at all.

@zanchey@aus.social Reminds me of the rules of cricket... You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out. When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and....

@zanchey@aus.social A really sad thing is that with the current ongoing AI enshitifIcation of Google, Bing is now in practice the less annoyed search engine to use. Come on Microsoft. You need to try harder.

@zanchey@aus.social @aerique@genart.social Note that Copilot is not the same as M365 Copilot, but if you login you will be routed to the other one. Also, if your organization has strict data policies then these will only apply when people login and so you are advised to block access to the free Copilot. 🤡

@zanchey@aus.social Well put. Of course, Channels in Teams are also like Folders, in the sense that they cannot be given the name LPT1. This is for backwards compatibility: without this rule, such Channels would be Printers instead of Folders on CP/M, an operating system from 1973. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/limits-specifications-teams#channel-names

@zanchey@aus.social I setup misroshit stuff on customer machines once in a while and i wish it was as simple as this. I mean you know you can still install skype for business, right? Thats a very significant software in microsoft b2b ecosystem. I was connected to a guy that had the damn thing open just 2 months ago(i wish i took a ss of it, noone believes me). There is outlook(old one), outlook, outlook(classic) and outlook 356, not all outlooks are created equal. old outlook is the only good one.

@zanchey@aus.social Unfortunately, I think this post has nailed it. Microsoft. I remember when adding programming to Office would make the world a Better Place. Programming, without a manual. Object Oriented Programming, where everything is a method; printing is Inherited by Range and Sheet but not Workbook or Doc. Subject to change with each update.

@zanchey@aus.social You can always switch to Salesforce and instead try to figure out why Salesforce Documents are now being replaced with Salesforce Files.

@zanchey@aus.social Fun fact: A Microsoft Teams Channel cannot be named "COM1," because a Channel is a Site is a Directory, and a Directory can't be named COM1 because that name is reserved for a serial port. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/limits-specifications-teams#channel-names

@zanchey@aus.social lots of angst in my office last week because coworkers couldn’t see important changes I’d made to files. Turns out something had clashed in SharePoint and Onedrive’s assorted ways of syncing things resulting in my shortcuts redirecting to a copy of the documents the system had made in an obscure very random folder 🤷♀️🤦♀️ For a while I was running two different versions of outlook simultaneously because they were both malfunctioning in different ways

@zanchey@aus.social Don't forget that in a Team in Teams a Channel is a Folder in a Document Library in a Site, unless it's a Private Channel in which case it's a Site as well - with a Document Library with a Folder.

@zanchey@aus.social but thank goodness we got rid of that desktop files-and-folders thing. It was confusing for users.
