This t-shirt has got too holey and threadbare even for scruffy me on my scruffiest days, so time to cut out the design and retire it to the memorial folder of old t-shirts. This one was one of the last birthday presents from my mum, 9 years ago. The rest of the shirt will do greasy rag service in the garage.

I do not want to hear that some AI coding agent "did all the work". The uncredited coders it stole from did all the work.

Can we start using "Mitch McConnell" instead of "Schrödinger's Cat" for something in an unobserved alive/dead condition? #thinkofthekittens

RE: https://fosstodon.org/@transportationtalk/116648588866293899 I really don't get why anyone would want to emulate these horrid style-over-substance massive download scrolling-for-animation web sites that take ages to load and don't even work on half the world's browsers.

A former-colleague had been stuck for a day going through a QGIS tutorial and called me up for help. I said "Click on the 'classify' button". That was it. Unstuck. The tutorial didn't say this, but was so detailed everywhere else the user couldn't understand why following the detailed instructions so carefully wasn't working. There's a lesson here for all documentation writers...

So the Police have been using a Palantir "AI tool" and discovered that some cops are Freemasons. How would an AI tool know that? Is the cop dumb enough to have "DCI and Master Mason" on their Linked In page? Have they got personal GPS tracking and facial recognition outside the lodges? Amazon purchases of regalia? https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/apr/25/met-police-investigates-hundreds-officers-palantir-ai-tool

Took me a while to find the switch to stop Mastodon Web client going "ping" on notifications. The settings button top right is specific settings for the column you are looking at, so clicking it on the "Home" column doesn't show settings for "Notifications", and its not in your preferences either (or at least I couldn't find it).

Is it okay to walk out of conference talks with AI images based on the idea that if they can't be bothered to make their own slides why should I be bothered to look at them?

Well I seem to have Juan Mendoza's R-Console bridge plugin mostly working in Qt6 in QGIS4 by replacing a whole truckload of Qt.Foo with Qt.FooThings.Foo - graphics not working but I don't think they were working on my QGIS 3 system... What's that window manager thing called where you see tiny versions of all open windows so you can pick one and is it implemented in xfce's wm and I'm going to sleep now so you have 7 hours to answer...

BlueSky appears to be down. Has "It Happened" happened? We wouldn't know here, it'll just be pictures of moss and Raspberry Pi projects as usual.

Two days trying to work out why the qgis-RConsole wasn't plotting things, comes down to the r2u build of unigd not linking to cairo (its flagged as "optional") and so not having raster output, file a bug and Dirk fixes it in ten minutes. Marvel at the power of this fully operational QGIS4-R system! #qgis #rstats

Is it possible to write an SQL script that runs on different DBs with different SQL dialects, or does one need a preprocessor and do stuff like "#ifdef postgres" and feed it through cpp (or wev) first?

A long time ago, maybe 15-20 years ago or more, someone stencilled hearts over this part of town. Mostly on street furniture and not private property (unless those were removed rapidly), they're gradually fading and being painted over, or the original street furniture gets replaced.
