@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot you make a great point, one that I think is completely overlooked, because we are considered "doomers" or "alarmists" for daring to even suggest such things. Fact is, we are realists - most people are just deluded, and as a result of a decades long propaganda campaign by the fossil fuel companies.

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot Are there any signs of drastic measures to reduce our environmental impact anywhere in the world? No. So...

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot Have you noticed that it is now very unpopular to point out that climate collapse has already occurred. We are to ignore the facts, the observations, the tipping points that are being reached, or cannot be avoided, and we are to be optimistic. I think enough digging would find the fossil fuel industry behind this new drive. I came across one element yesterday, followed a thread and discovered it's a whole movement. Heads in the sand NOW!

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot @grayface_ghost@tech.lgbt this. So many people think “it’s happening to them over there” too. It’s going to get so much worse with failed crops leading to food shortages, deaths, wars and further cost rises

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot The future is going to be much, much worse. Period! But if we don't stop now, this "worse" scenario will be like a walk in the park!

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot I feel like we're already past the tipping point. Dying forests, dying oceans and corporations' will to keep doing business as usual will expedite the end.

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot That’s what many people don’t get. The lifeboats are leaving Titanic, if they in fact haven’t all already left, and it’s just an illusion that the ship will not flounder, and when it does eventually in a very spectacular fashion. It’s entirely possible this is how the world ends, not with a bang, but a whimper won’t be the case at all.

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot just as an additional note, the uniquely brilliantly talented UK girl whose videos I post here and also at a You Tube page I created for her, as well as my spectacular roommate who teaches yoga and exercise from her home, are both huge fans and practitioners of meditation as you are. In fact, my roommate gets up every morning at 5 am to study it.

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot Until the Republican billionaire donors, foreign & domestic, cease their climate denialism funding and stop bribing judges & politicians to thwart climate action, the climate crisis will accelerate. #KochNetwork spent over $146 million dollars on a malign influence campaign, that aren't stopping anytime soon. These folks are preparing to fry democracy & the planet. https://www.levernews.com/amid-heat-wave-gop-adds-climate-denial-to-spending-bills/ https://www.greenpeace.org/usa/fighting-climate-chaos/climate-deniers/koch-industries/#:~:text=Koch%20Family%20Foundations%20have%20spent,solutions%2C%20from%201997%2D2018. https://www.greenpeace.org/usa/fighting-climate-chaos/climate-deniers/front-groups/ https://www.vice.com/en/article/n7zqxm/how-koch-industries-fake-scientists-and-rush-limbaugh-invented-climate-denial

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot We have spent the past 12 years arguing over whether we should use carbon credits to allow corporations to pass the buck to developing nations, or if nations should burn more coal just to spite ecologists because "fuck them" There is no way we avert the worst case scenario if we have an economy that depends on perpetual growth to function. There is no way we can restructure our economies fast enough to avert the worst case scenario, even if we decided to try

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot And what are REAL, PRACTICAL measures proposed to stop pumping CO2 into atmosphere, that will help? Not signing memorandums. I searching for list of real, practical, doable actions. Not 'reduce emissions for 100500%", but specific real measures. E. g. "upgrade all public transport to electric", or "use material X instead of material Y in construction", "use tech A instead of tech B in industry C"... and so on. All I see regarding climate change, is reports about skyrocketed temp.

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot "The future is going to be much, much worse." Think on terms of food systems collapsing due to new weather extremes as being very possible in the near future. That and of course war, war will become much more likely as many areas become unlivable. Either one of those two outcomes should be more than enough to encourage drastic carbon mitigation action.

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot Dude, people don't even understand that every bit of our food was once alive. We take another creature, plant, animal, microorganism, tear it apart in our mouths. And incorporate those molecules into our own bodies. We are the Earth in the most profound way. If we pollute the air, water and soil that keep us alive, and destroy the biodiversity that allows natural systems to function, no amount of money will save us. ☠️ https://youtu.be/KDcdpfH7ay8

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot Actually the climate catastrophes are showing up very clear and you're certainly right that it's just getting worse. The potential that autocracies, social unrests, migrations, wars and genocides increase as social aspect of these catastrophes are probably raising.

@isomeme@mastodon.sdf.org 2023-07-28 04:59
@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot Unfortunately, the climate is going to keep getting worse for several decades even if we take drastic action now. It takes time for CO2 to leave the atmosphere, and until we reach the pre-industrial-revolution normal level, the planet will continue to get hotter. Urgent action now might be able to put us on a path to a century of misery, rather than a path to complete societal collapse and possible human extinction. All the better outcomes required us to start sooner.
-
@brrbrr@mastodon.world 2023-07-28 05:31
@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot kind of. The reaction is now probably a run-away one. It's going to get drastically drastically worse whatever we do. Human emissions just released the handbrake, now a far larger dynamic is hurling down the hill towards the cliff.
