@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot Unfortunately, China is expanding its use of fossil fuels so we are basically fucked. Anything we do will be negated by China and India.

@contavespi@newsie.social @bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot You have that literally backward. In 2022, China's GHG emissions declined while US GHG emissions grew. India's GHG emissions did grow, but more slowly that the US's, and that nation produces about half as much GHG as the US.

@contavespi@newsie.social @bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot rubbish. Anything anyone does that's positive is still positive - for example if the US and Europe didn't use gas for energy, China wouldn't burn coal because gas would be more cost-effective. Yes, it would be great if China's carbon emissions were shrinking, but this sort of blame-shifting is just an excuse for passivity - and they're building more renewables faster than you might think.
