Having tons of fun with a new pet project that I've been wanting to code for ages. One of the things I've loved was creating a character that represents it, emulating a comic book style 😁

The project uses #php 8.4 with a few components, some of my own, one from #Symfony that blew me away with it's completeness and a few more.

The secrecy is a silly habit I have to only reveal things once they reach a certain maturity 😉

"Symfony 8 ignores your #[Groups] attribute" https://ddz.dev/blog/symfony-8-groups-attribute-silently-ignored/ "Groups is not the only class that moved. The same shim treatment applies to the whole old namespace: SerializedName, Ignore, Context, MaxDepth, DiscriminatorMap. Every one of them will compile from the old import and do absolutely nothing. Ignore is the scary one, since a silently dropped #[Ignore] doesn't remove data from your response, it adds data you meant to hide. Empty invoices are embarrassing; leaking a field you explicitly marked as ignored is a different category of morning." #php #symfony

I don't like dependency injection. Small Symfony rant. Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
Today I realized again that I really don't like (PHP) Symfony. When everything works, it's simple. But when some dependency injection (DI) magic doesn't work, and e.g., an injected logger logs into the void instead of to your log management, you suddenly have to be an expert in unshittyfying/ demystifying/ untangling the DI magic. I am stupid, and I like stupid-simple solutions. No magic. No DI. No YAML or XML configs. No attributes on classes, spread everywhere in the codebase. I just want a main function, where I plug everything together myself... Stupid & simple... But it is, what it is... But I will never like it. #Symfony #PHP #DependencyInjection

I prompted a personal financial dashboard a few months ago, simple javascript stack. It worked. Wanted to extend it, oh boy, what a mess. Migrated the whole thing to #Symfony yesterday. The tedious code migration parts were done by Claude and it did 90% properly. The trick was good slicing and targeted prompts. For tools that should work long-term: use the stack you are familiar with. Authentication, Frontend, Doctrine, everything was setup so fast, almost like magic.

#cms #webdev #backdropcms #symfony https://backdropcms.org/

How do you test a feature that only triggers 3 days after registration? You could wait. Or hack the DB. Or hardcode a bypass. Or... expose a dedicated internal API that presets your app into any state on demand, like they've done at Bumble. I couldn't find an established name for this pattern, does one exist? I've written about how to build one with modern #Symfony Usable by devs, QA, designers and product alike, through a CLI, API and web UI. Even in PHPUnit tests! https://gnugat.github.io/2026/02/25/xl-10-qalin-test-control-interface-with-symfony.html

This is great news for local devs around Montreal. Diverse area of town and close to Old Montréal. May I suggest, if booking a hotel room, you do not book at the Hilton Doubletree on Jean Mance. Last time I was there they had a mice problem. But if you're feeling lucky, take a chance, maybe they solved the issue in the last couple of years. #montreal #quebec #symfony https://mastodon.social/@symfony/115979021470469296
