New, from me: 'Popa' Botnet Linked to Publicly Traded Israeli Firm "For the past four years, a sprawling Android-based botnet called Popa has forced millions of consumer TV boxes to relay Internet traffic linked to advertising fraud, account takeovers, and mass data-scraping efforts. This week, researchers from multiple security firms concluded that the Popa botnet is linked to NetNut, a “residential proxy” provider operated by the publicly-traded Israeli firm Alarum Technologies Ltd [NASDAQ: ALAR]." https://krebsonsecurity.com/2026/06/popa-botnet-linked-to-publicly-traded-israeli-firm/ There is an incredible amount of interesting data and findings in the reports on Popa released this week. For example, the proxy detection service Spur told me they recently scraped the LG and Samsung app stores and found that each had approximately 3,000 apps available for download. Spur said it found that more than 42 percent of apps available for download via the webOS operating system on LG smart TVs include SDKs that turn one’s television into an always-on residential proxy node. More than a quarter of the apps made for Samsung’s Tizen operating system had similar residential proxy components, Spur found. #proxy #popa #botnet #lg #samsung

Danke 😀 #FollowerPower #samsung #s24ultra #fritzbox

Times of India | US chipmaker Micron reaches $1 trillion market capitalization for the first time AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. US chipmaker Micron Technology briefly surged past a $1 trillion market valuation on May 26, driven by soaring investor enthusiasm for artificial‑intelligence‑related memory chips. The stock jumped more than 17 % after UBS lifted its price target, reaching an intra‑day high of 19.3 % as analysts highlighted the rapidly growing demand for advanced high‑bandwidth memory used in AI data centers and cloud infrastructure. Reuters noted that Micron’s shares have climbed eight‑fold over the past year amid tight supply and heightened competition, with the company already selling out its entire 2026 high‑bandwidth‑memory inventory. The milestone underscores the broader shift of capital toward firms supplying key AI hardware, alongside fellow memory makers Samsung and SK Hynix, which are also benefiting from the AI boom. US Top News and Analysis | Beware the boom and bust cycle of memory stocks, investors warn amid AI boom AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. The article warns that despite the recent surge in memory‑chip stocks—driven by AI‑related demand and the rollout of high‑bandwidth memory (HBM)—investors should remain cautious because the sector’s historic boom‑and‑bust cycle is still a risk. Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron and SanDisk have seen shares soar this year, but analysts note that supply remains constrained, that new compression technology such as Google’s TurboQuant could sharply cut demand, and that the high valuations assume prolonged price strength and disciplined spending. South Korea’s market is especially vulnerable, with memory makers accounting for more than half of the KOSPI, prompting some advisors to recommend profit‑taking and broader diversification, while others remain bullish on the Korean giants. Overall, the article stresses that the memory industry’s perceived structural shift may be temporary and that investors should temper optimism with the sector’s historically volatile nature. US Top News and Analysis | Google races to put Gemini at the center of Android before Apple’s AI reboot AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Google is using its latest Android rollout to embed Gemini, its new AI model, throughout the phone, browser, car, and laptop, turning the operating system into an “intelligence system.” Ahead of the Google I/O developer conference, the company previewed Android updates that let Gemini understand screen context, move across apps, and complete multi‑step tasks such as building shopping carts, booking reservations, or generating a barbecue menu and adding ingredients to an Instacart list. The AI acts as an agent rather than a simple chatbot, but it always returns to the user for confirmation before finalizing actions, keeping the human “in the loop.” The features will debut on the latest Samsung Galaxy and Pixel devices this summer and later expand to watches, cars, glasses, and laptops, with Android Auto receiving a Gemini‑powered redesign that includes a major maps update and in‑car task assistance. Google hopes this deeper AI integration will help it compete with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Apple’s upcoming “Apple Intelligence” initiative while maintaining user control over what Gemini can see and do. “My face ended up on their televisions without my consent”: Dua Lipa is furious and suing Samsung for $15 million. “My face ended up on their televisions without my consent.” Furious Dua Lipa has called upon her best lawyers and sued Samsung, according to Variety. The damages request is $15 million. The artist has formally accused the tech giant of using her image on the packaging of some television models without any official authorization. According to documents filed with the California federal court, the singer claims that since 2024, her photograph has been inserted into the packaging of products, leading consumers to believe in the existence of a commercial partnership never agreed upon. “I didn’t even intend to buy a TV, but I saw the packaging and decided to take it,” one user wrote, cited in the complaint. “I would only buy that TV because there’s Dua Lipa on it,” wrote another. “I’m so obsessed. I love her so much.” Another said that if you had to sell something “you just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it.” At the center of the controversy would be a shot taken during the Austin City Limits Festival 2024, on whose image rights the artist holds full ownership. The popstar’s legal team says that Samsung never made any request for authorization or defined any economic compensation. Following repeated attempts, which remained unsuccessful, to obtain the removal of the promotional material. The accusations contained in the complaint are numerous and of both civil and federal nature: from copyright infringement to illicit use of the image, up to violation of the Lanham Act and infringement of the artist’s personal brand. “The lady Lipa’s face was used prominently for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product unbeknownst to her, – the complaint reads – without compensation and without her having any say, control or ability to intervene in any way. The lady Lipa did not authorize and would not have authorized this use.” (Product photo taken from the complaint documents and published by Variety) Article “My face is on their televisions without my consent”: Dua Lipa is furious and sues Samsung for $15 million comes from Il Fatto Quotidiano. #DuaLipa #Samsung #Variety #California #theLanhamAct #IlFattoQuotidiano https://www.ilfattoquotidiano.it/2026/05/10/la-mia-faccia-e-finita-sulle-loro-televisioni-senza-il-mio-consenso-dua-lipa-e-furibonda-e-fa-causa-a-samsung-per-15-milioni-di-dollari/8381317/

Samsung has an Android problem — and it’s getting worse. Hundreds of millions of Galaxy owners await its latest upgrade bringing critical security updates, with no confirmation yet as to when and where it comes. Google’s Pixel benefits from this, but the real winner is #iPhone — and that’s bad news for #Samsung. As I’ve warned before, this is a fundamental disconnect in #Android, with #Google owning the OS but also growing #Pixel in competition with its OEMs. Samsung outsells Pixel more than 15-1. And yet it’s Pixel that’s first to everything, including the new Android 17 beta update https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2026/05/04/googles-android-update-iphone-wins-as-samsung-falls-behind/

US Top News and Analysis | Samsung is the latest tech player to bemoan memory chip crunch. That's good news for these stocks, analysts say  AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Samsung’s executive vice‑president of memory warned that surging demand for DRAM and NAND is deepening a supply crunch that will likely extend into 2027, with pre‑booked orders already outpacing the company’s fulfillment capacity. Tech CEOs, including Apple’s Tim Cook and Alphabet’s Sundar Pichai, say higher memory costs are starting to bite into their businesses, while Meta is extending the life of older servers because new chips are scarce. Wall Street sees the shortage as an investment opportunity, targeting major memory makers such as Micron, SK Hynix and Samsung, as well as NAND producers like SanDisk, whose earnings surged on sharply higher average selling prices. Analysts also note strong upside potential for memory‑test equipment and for HDD makers Seagate and Western Digital, whose stocks have risen sharply on expectations of continued cap‑ex spending by hyperscalers to support AI infrastructure. Oh no! /s What a joyous sight! Our new Samsung TV will never see the outside world. It's connected to our network via ethernet, locked on a VLAN so Home Assistant can connect to it, but it can see nothing except my local DNS server (for now). I've preemptively blocked its WiFi MAC address in case anyone ever accidentally tries to "help" by connecting it to the WiFi. Fully working with Home Assistant. Dumb screen otherwise. Perfect. #homeassistant #samsung #tv #opnsense #firewall #privacy

It's really a.missed chance by #Samsung that they don't use 123.45.67.89 as their own #DNS resolver & default for their devices. Cuz they actually have that one allocated by #APNIC and #WHOIS literally says it's in #Gangnam! Don't believe me? Olin pelaamassa pleikkaria, joten televisio kirjaimellisesti tunkee AI-popupeja ulkoisen signaalin päälle. Miksi modernien laitteiden pitää olla tällaista paskaa? #enshittification #samsung
