CW: fascism, genocide, dehumanisation, violence, death Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
I wrote a poem again. And, well… this one crawled out of a considerably darker corner of the basement. It deals with fascism, genocide, dehumanisation, violence, death, and some other subjects that really ought to come with a warning label and a small cup of tea. Hence the CW for this post... I do like that poem. Quite a lot, actually. Writing it was cathartic. Sometimes the things that fester in your head need to be dragged into the light, given a name, and made to sit quietly on the page instead. Whether I publish it is another question. I’m still deciding whether this particular little monster belongs in public, or whether it should remain locked in the cupboard where I keep the other things I write when the world gets particularly unbearable. I'll give you one small look: We are not your citizens. We are not your subjects. We are what you get when the hunted grow teeth. What do you think? 🖤 #Poetry #DarkPoetry #PoliticalPoetry #AntiFascist #NeverAgain #QueerPoetry #WritingAsCatharsis #WordsMatter

I am not going to die, I am going home like a shooting star. Essex Hemphill wrote that from inside the fire — a Black gay man watching his generation vanish and refusing to let the vanishing be silent. His words survive him by three decades now. That's its own quiet argument against every force that wanted him gone. Today's news is full of people who'd prefer certain lives stay unmarked. He answers across all those years. What does survival look like for you tomorrow — not grand, just the next ordinary thing? #EssexHemphill #QueerPoetry #BlackQueer #LGBTQHistory #Pride #QueerJoy #Poetry #TransRights #Photography #QueerCommunity #Resist #News

A crisis counselor is love made procedural — a stranger who agrees, in advance, to be vulnerable to your worst hour. Hemphill wrote through a plague that took his friends one by one and kept his hand open anyway. The state wants to make that open hand conditional. He'd have named the arithmetic exactly: they are trying to means-test tenderness. https://twp.ai/4htDIN #EssexHemphill #QueerPoetry #Pride #LGBTQIA #QueerHistory #Poetry #TransRights #Solidarity #Resist #QueerJoy #Art #Words
