"There is already more than enough LNG export capacity to meet global demand for the fuel, if countries meet national and international climate goals." https://www.carbonbrief.org/qa-what-does-bidens-lng-pause-mean-for-global-emissions/ @climate #CarbonBrief #LNG #oilAndGas #energy #GHG #longRead #exports #freeTrade #Biden

The expansion of LNG depends on the support of banks and asset managers who continue to pump unrestricted finance into the sector, with banks providing US$213 billion for LNG expansion between 2021 and 2023. The #report assesses financial flows (project financing and corporate financing) to and investments (bonds and equity) in the 150 largest LNG developers: https://reclaimfinance.org/site/en/2024/12/05/frozen-gas-boiling-planet-how-the-support-of-banks-and-investors-to-lng-fuels-a-climate-disaster/ #LNG #oilAndGas #energy #GHG #exports #emissions #carbon #methane #assets #capacity #commodities #ReclaimFinance

We should not be burning methane gas in our homes (or anywhere). New research report: Scientists gave asthma patients free electric stoves to replace their gas stoves, then checked to see if symptoms improved. Not only did symptoms improve but ditching gas was *better than medicine.* https://www.climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/electric-stoves-asthma #LNG #oilAndGas #GHG #emissions #methane #asthma #health #methaneGas #naturalGas #electricity #stoves

climate change, ableism, covid, negative Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
@eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place Agreed. We didn't beat #Covid: we grew bored of it, abandoned all infection control measures, and called it victory. There are striking parallels between Covid and #GlobalWarming: both get politicised; both get denied; both are subjects of wishful thinking (vax-and-relax and carbon capture, respectively); and we have the tools to deal with them both, but we refuse to use them. Our response to Covid was a speed-run of our response to global warming, and both responses are caused by the same human characteristics. If people just wore a respirator in the office and the supermarket, their risk of Covid would be substantially reduced, but that's apparently too much to ask. The sacrifices people would have to make to reduce #GHG emissions are far larger than that. There's not a chance that people will make them. I hope you're enjoying this summer, because it only gets hotter from here.
