Saskatchewan experiencing less-severe wildfire season compared with 2025
The 2025 wildfire season in Saskatchewan is one few people will soon forget. This year has been much less severe so far, and experts say that is because of more precipitation.

Preliminary numbers are in. This is on the west side of Lake Okanagan, along Westside Road, on the Vernon side of the lake.
Current estimate is 230 homes destroyed.

Two days ago we had very strong wind which cleared the valley of all the smoke.
Yesterday, the smoke came back with a vengeance. Summers in the Okanagan. :(

What people don't understand is that these fires, they destroy the only defense we have against the out of control global warming.
millions, if not billions of trees were lost just in the past few weeks and no amount of plantation will bring them back.
It will take years and decades for those forests to return to the condition they were before the fire and in the mean time, we keep increasing our carbon emission for useless crap like over consumption, war, useless technology with pre-planned obsolescence and obsession with global tourism.
We can't change our way of life, majority of people are just too dumb to be willing to sacrifice their comfort and "do as usual" lifestyle to TRY slowing down this existential treat to our lives.
We may just give up fighting and enjoy it while it lasts!

REMINDER: fires and smoke wouldn’t be this severe if action had been taken on climate earlier.
Yes, some blazes start with human error or arson, but the climate crisis is drying forests and landscapes into matchboxes, so one spark becomes a firestorm that is hotter, faster and far harder to fight.

This is not a natural disaster.
The oil industry caused it and is knowingly throwing fuel on the fire while it continues raking in record profits at our expense.
For us to have any chance of a future, the oil industry can have no future.

And all of this is just the beginning of the #climatecrisis. We've seen it coming for decades, but failed to act on the information. How much longer until we take this for what it is, a #climateemergency?
