And I still say there is no such thing as "responsible LLM use". Even if you don't care about the ethical issues - which I believe would, on its own, qualify someone as a low-grade sociopath - then the legal and environmental and social issues it brings up should put the final nail(s) in the coffin. "But I'm using the slop machine well and wisely" is, in fact, "I like slop-coding, actually" rephrased so very, very slightly. And that means you failed the litmus test from my original post... Oleksandr was a #nuclear #engineer at the #power plant in #Zaporizhzhia when #russians encircled it in early #march 2022. The #plant sat just a few hundred kilometers #north of Russian-occupied #crimea which meant the #troops were able to move to capture it within days of the full-scale #invasion .

An #engineer’s worth can be measured in many ways: years of licensure, number of graduate degrees, number of junior staff managed, number of successful product designs, number of units manufactured per annum, number of faults per a thousand operating hours, amount of revenue generated per annum, amount of savings attained per unit, etc. But there is one very important engineering performance metric that is rarely discussed: number of successful #legal disputes (either on the plaintiff side or on the defendant side) in which the engineer was forced to participate, as a data purveyor, as a technical advisor, or as an expert witness. And this crucial skill is always acquired on-the-job, because it cannot be taught in a classroom.

Today's Challenge: Fighting my #depression while battling a junior #engineer who wont do his job or engage when he is asked to engage, and I am just trying to get this kid out of #FailureToLaunch mode. I dunno, part of me thinks this guy is just living his life in permanent #NightmareMode (ala #Doom), and he makes all this shit difficult on purpose.

#Introduction Hello everyone, I finally found a home for my profile outside of mastodon.social, after nearly two years of being on the network! #Mathstodon was the natural choice for me because I've always had a casual interest in #mathematics and lately I've been getting into (basic) formal #logic I worked as a #software #engineer for nearly two years, but after moving countries I found myself without a job for quite a while. During that time, I ended up learning a lot of things I don't think I would have had the energy for had I still been working. On many matters my opinion has changed substantially over the last year or so, and perhaps for the better, but on the whole I've gone from unearned confidence to general uncertainty, which I know some find irritating but I think it leads to interesting discussions. I'm excited to see what this instance has to offer and to hopefully make some meaningful contributions. — Bemmesr
