I get stressed when I open Ivory and see that I have 200-300 new posts. And then a few hours later it’s the same thing. I’m not follow many accounts (I think?). Times like these I actually would like an algorithm. #Mastodon #Fediverse #FOMO #MentalHealth #Algorithm #SocialMedia #Stress

#MastodonTips

Increase the spread of your posts with.. #HashTags

Big tech now ignores the humble HashTag through #algorithm control. On here you’re IN CONTROL

Couple tips:

  1. For accessibility capitalise the first letter of each word (TitleCase). Then screen readers can read each word. Do this even if the suggested tag that pops up is all lower case.

  2. Anyone can follow a tag and that’ll help those people find your post. As your post will show in their feed. Follow some HashTags yourself!

RE: https://mementomori.social/@rolle/116806833065363287 Interestingly, Meta has been implementing a "tune your algorithm" type of feature, which is surprisingly user-focused. You can select the topics you want to see more of and what you want to see less of, mute words, add your preferences... of course, Meta has their own agenda and wants you to get as hooked as possible so they can make money off you as a product, but I like the idea that it is not completely opaque. I am building something similar in my Mastodon instance but truly without any monetary goal. For algorithm haters out there, remember that reverse chronological order is an algorithm too. If you like getting video recommendations on YouTube, PeerTube, or music recommendations in a playlist, that is an algorithm too. I honestly do not understand all the algorithm hate when it is focused on the tech itself rather than commercialism. The capitalist nature of algorithms is, of course, something to stand against, since it works by exploiting users. But if it is for user benefit without any rotten backstory, algorithms in my world are great. #Algorithm #TheAlgorithm #AlgorithmicFeed #ForYou #FYP #Meta #Fediverse

Calling all old-school plain text enthusiasts who have no time for algorithms! Come and join us in the brand new Dark Forest Plain Text space. It's like the good old days of the internet never left. We're talking low-tech plain text, mostly, relying on the text itself rather than plugins or Emacs. See you on DFOS! Boosts appreciated. https://app.dfos.com/j/877ve24zr73rcv7t9t8ckr #PlainText #algorithm #LowTech

6/X The #algorithm follows of a multi-stage pipeline that consists of the following main stages. 1️⃣ Sourcing: ~1000 Posts are fetched from various sources. 2️⃣ Ranking: Candidates are ranked by a machine learning model. 3️⃣ Sampling: Lastly, heuristics are applied to diversify #recommendations

Use Mastodon, they said. It does not use any #algorithm to direct you at what to read, they said. No desperate attempts to make things go viral, they said.
