Hey, the petiiton is ready to go. Here's the thing, in the wake of Seattle's 2020 protests one of the supposed BIG win's was WA's Karen Law. The only problem is that a Karen still spends nothing calling the cops and ANY single cop interaction with a false basis could be deadly. The legislature reocgnized this be making Karen's liable for police mistakes. But shouldn't the STATE also be liable for cop violence? https://www.change.org/p/make-karen-law-accessible-in-washington-state #Karen #KarenLaw #BlackLivesMAtter #PWN #abolition #ACAB

In North Carolina, a Shooting Victim Pleads for His Shooter’s Release After 30 Years Ramulus Mason was sentenced to life without parole due to North Carolina’s three-strikes law. The man he shot insists that he shouldn’t still be in prison. https://boltsmag.org/north-carolina-three-strikes-ramulus-mason/ #NorthCarolina #threestrikes #abolition #boltsmag

"Everyone deserves to see the sky and breathe fresh air. But the Allan Government’s No Air in Prison Bill seeks to stop people behind bars from having at least one hour of fresh air each day in prison. This is a cruel attack on basic human dignity that will disproportionately harm incarcerated First Nations people and other people stuck in solitary confinement. The Allan Government must stop shrugging off human rights responsibilities that are meant to protect us all and should abandon this Bill." «Not Your Rescue Project: Migrant sex workers fighting for justice»

👤 Chanelle Gallant 👤 Elene Lam 🗓 2024-11-12 📔 Haymarket Books 🛒 https://www.haymarketbooks.org/books/2258-not-your-rescue-project 🌐 Website: https://www.notyourrescueprojectbook.com

A landmark abolitionist primer on migration, sex work, policing, and the “anti-trafficking industry”—and a powerful argument about who is really leading the way toward justice: migrant sex workers themselves.

In this impassioned corrective to decades of misguided, carceral approaches to migration and sex work, long-time organizers Chanelle Gallant and Elene Lam deftly expose the harms of criminalization in the name of “anti-trafficking” and lift up migrant sex workers’ organizing in the US, Canada, and elsewhere. In doing so, they make the compelling case that the only effective response to the needs of migrant sex workers must be led by migrants in the sex trade, as they fight for rights, safety, and autonomy.

Gallant and Lam illustrate how this movement is taking aim at the root causes of violence and abuse: the white supremacist securitization of borders, the criminalization of both migration and sex work, the patriarchial devaluation of women’s labor, and forced displacement due to climate disaster, war, and poverty—all fueled by racial capitalism.

An indispensable exploration of the relationship between migration and sex work—and the underlying societal conditions they reflect—Not Your Rescue Project is a thorough indictment of the anti-trafficking industry as an engine of criminalization and state violence, and an instructive account of the emancipatory politics already being practiced by migrant sex workers in their organizing. Throughout, Gallant and Lam place migrant sex workers at the center of struggles against border imperialism, carceral states, and capitalism—dispelling a range of poisonous myths and paving the way for deeper alliances across movements with the shared goal of dismantling and abolishing carceralism in all its forms.

I guess every (small) victory needs to be celebrated. If you have an account at Citizens Bank make sure you let them know that they did the correct thing here. Citizens Bank to cut ties with CoreCivic and GEO after a fierce public pressure campaign https://apnews.com/article/citizens-bank-ice-immigration-3895b2e05c1221e69b79bdb17e116735 #uspol #abolition #ice #citizensbank

So this is a little message in a bottle to anyone who will think "reform" and some bodycams will change anything. No friends, put that Reform down. I think you meant to reach for the Defunding and Abolishing. Make sure them democrats know that we're not wanting to see the budget go UP at ICE or any cop shop to add cameras. No, they can go ahead and pay for them bodycams by firing the to top 10% of them cops voted most likeliest to incriminate himself on a bodycam. #abolishice #abolition

@bebadefabo@mastodon.social me too. #abolition Just a few months ago the church wanted to offer a mutual aid meal and invite the police, I said "no way. No copaganda." There were 8 people at the table. I talked a little bit about why. Only because someone asked. It blew up. I was threatened with violence. Then I was chastised for using a slur. Copaganda. I was the bad guy. The Pastor even came to my house to speak to me privately. Like they do. (I'm an atheist). So it's been like that.
