@jessie@mastodon.social I've had this exact interaction giving my pottery as gifts:
"Oh wow! Thanks! What... is it?"
Welllll... it started as a bowl, but then...
<5 minutes later>
So yeah, that why I recommend avoiding direct eye contact with it...

@astraluma@tacobelllabs.net @ryanc@infosec.exchange @owen@mastodon.transneptune.net closest I've been able to get is:
- real domain
- tailscale (headscale actually) with local tunneling
- wildcard subdomain pointing to IP on tailnet
- DNS-01 wildcard cert
- internal DNS that just lies, served on both the tailnet and LAN
- internal sites use the wildcard cert
it... works? no, it works. end result is that a random device on the LAN without tailscale can point a browser at https://whatever-the-fuck.subdomain.bleh and it ends up talking to a real webserver over TLS. Firefox even gives it the thumbs up.
however, this is not a place of honor. no great deeds are recorded here.

@petrillic@hachyderm.io we've all been there, I think.
but regardless of whether the dummy on the near side of the wire is an "AI agent" or an "undercaffeinated but seasoned industry professional", it should not be possible to go from "full database in production" to "abject and irrevocable nothingness in production" in 9 seconds.
RBAC is a thing, as are backups. the PocketOS story is a bog standard IT-is-hard story masquerading as an AI story IMO.

@thomholwerda if you're talking about commercial software the root problem is capitalism (many such cases).
you can cherish the craft as much as you like, but when your boss doesn't care about anything but the schedule (and perhaps monetization), there's only so much you can do.

@glyph used to be that you could find ways to make things better, and leave the business crap to the business folks. they took what you made and figured out how to make money off of it.
it's upside down now, with business folks driving design and feature decisions.
