Homer didn't even come up with the story in the Odyssey. His version is just the one written down. Homer was a part of a tradition of storytellers who would spin out these massive stories from memory. Not because they memorized them word for word, but by interweaving common tropes, plot devices, and themes suited to the audience, time, and place. Changing it up is the most historically accurate thing to do.

@shootingtsar@mastodon.social @Doug_Bostrom@scicomm.xyz @QasimRashid@mastodon.social even giving him the benefit of the doubt that he does, it doesn't really matter. "wanting to create products that improve society" hides a lot of assumptions behind words and phrases whose definitions could mean completely different things between any one of us and Musk. He could genuinely believe he is, but his idea of what that means could easily involve all of us being churned under the weight of his society-improving projects. His intents and words are all empty in the face of the effects his actions bear out on the world. If he's trying to improve society, then it's not an improved society I endorse.

@odr_k4tana@infosec.exchange @Gargron@mastodon.social I mean you're both painting with too broad of strokes in your generalizations and missing wide swathes of populations while neither of you is technically wrong about the specific users you're talking about. Usability is a spectrum and creating a one-size-fits-all UX is an antipattern no matter how much or little it abstracts away decision making possibilities from the user. Open standards, data, and interoperability enable these experiences for the whole spectrum. MySpace was a great example because you didn't have to understand HTML/CSS to use it, but if you wanted to understand it then you could use it to personalize your page, if you didn't care one bit about learning any of it but still wanted to personalize your page then it opened a market for templates and style generators with better usability, and if you had no interest in any of that then the app was no less usable.

@mttaggart@infosec.exchange I've been asked to give talks at work about my llm usage for coding because they want to push its use and I happen to get some productive use out of it. I'm not a booster of this kind of stuff, so most of these talks are just me explaining their pitfalls and how I only get success out of them because all of my usage of them centers around understanding how they fail and when that's acceptable coupled with how I've already done the sorts of things I'm asking of it manually hundreds of times and so I know exactly what to tell it to do. Basically, there's no getting around learning first what you need to prompt it to do and that it can only fill in anything where you don't care how it turns out.
