#Google’s done it again. #AV2, son of AV1. #Streaming video using 30% less bandwidth.
Google always needs a handicap, making unique chips for this. AV1 ground out slowly, and AV2 won’t happen for 10 years, though they'll have chips for 2028.
Assuming most will update their streaming device, be it bespoke like Roku or generalized like a phone, in the next 5 to 8 years, is hilarious.
Between the consumers financial burden & just not needing to, Google is doing that thing they normally do: pretend.

As far as I understand this didn’t come up at the beginning of his run or before he won the nomination. It has to come up post-, when it ruins everything, & this kind of accusation can only happen to him. Can’t accuse Susan of SA. It makes this kind of accusation so effective. It’s like calling somebody can antisemite, only worse.

I have no doubt as long as a server with "mastodon" in the name isn't actually aiming for malice, Mastodon as a company won't bother flexing their lawyers. It would be a disaster both socially and legally. If they disagree, I would love to see them come after one of those 1800 servers.

Just dropped a #Tampermonkey script that hides non-media posts in your Lists on #mastodon. An absolute wonder for people who follow a lot of artists.

Works real well for me on my instance on #MacOS for #Firefox, but please test.

Because it is stopped but the pellets still exist, If you then reach INTO the vest or onto the floor, you will find said pellets less they've rolled, which they wouldn't because they are now compressed. @puujalkavihrea Though I can understand the desire to minimize "abuse" of services, I can't imagine anyone would literally wheel around a wheelchair all day just so they could ride the bus for free. I think that with a moment's thought of the logic of this, this should have been a non-issue. Saying this, my transit service has people with disabilities get a transit pass (even if free) so this becomes a non-issue.

@KerryMitchell Behind-the-meter would be great for most things, unfortunately we already know what data centers are doing. Behind the meter of EV charging station could be racks of solar panels above a parking lot, taking a chunk of the load off during the day. Data centers, however, have proven that they’d rather use natural gas or oil power plants on premise, wherever that premise may be. Then the water needs. Not as apples to oranges as it may seem.

Remember when a “legitimate argument” peddled against #EVs was the power grid would fail? Too much strain? Oh WOE be to the power lines! Grandma will DIE in her home in August because YOU plugged in!

Yet suddenly we are full steam ahead building #datacenters the size of Manhattan to make banana pics. #AI #slop. And the electric demand will be colossal and constant.

Society and the world needs to stop being fooled and corralled by interests that don’t care about you.

@dan @davidzipper IMO it may make more sense (as would this study) if we taxed cars by drag force vs weight or cost. The lower the drag force, at least as a hypothesis, the less chance of killing a pedestrian in a collision. If you do it by straight weight, an EV, say a Nissan Leaf @ 3900 lbs or Tesla Model 3 @ 4000 lbs, would be taxed at near the same rate as a Ford F150 @ 4400 lbs which, and lets be clear, do not have close to the same fatality rates.

Like I know this is FireFish, but I assume it’ll affect mastodon too, where 4.2.7, which is the last major security patch, was Feb 16 which is almost 1 month ago. If you’re setting it to one month you’re getting pretty close to “current version” as 4.2.8 only does important things if you’re a new instance. Just my opinion, but rooted in something sensible I think, that you set that more to three months than one month.
