🤫 I just fixed a super embarrassing oversight in how I used name table IDs to show the font's name.
This little bug was there forever and so in-your-face that I became blind to it.
Refresh your fondue and it'll report the PROPER name!
I keep thinking about a talk I saw by Ferdinand Ulrich, archivist of early digital fonts.
Ulrich showed how institutions have huge archives, with reports and books and correspondence of people from the type world exploring how analog typography could be used on the computer. The birth of digital typography!
You could read all the back-and-forth that went into establishing standards, exporing new ideas, creating prototypes. When the world wide web became common, much of this obviously moved to the digital world. Until ~2010 people were still in the habit of printing and archiving important mails, but after that?
Very proud that a little quality-of-life improvement in the new Wakamai Fondue caught @mwichary@mastodon.online's eye, and made it to the Unsung blog!

Wakamai Fondue got featured on Jectives Typography News!

🤫 Tiny colorful update to Wakamai Fondue 🤫
You can use a color font's built-in palettes in the main tester!
The font will serve two purposes:

Folks can just see how the fondue works, and get an idea of what their fonts might be able to do

Your font will be advertised and hopefully send so many folks your way that your server explodes and you drown in money from all the sales you make

Gimlet has been serving us well for the past years on https://wakamaifondue.com/beta/ (thanks for your patience, @djrrb@mastodon.social!) but for the new release we can use a fresh font.
This is complete goosebump-o-rama to me: LFT explains a classic C64 tunnel demo effect which is ultra-nerdy and super impressive.
It looks great, it's very clever, it uses known tricks in a new, original way, and it's really well explained. Even mediocre coders like me could implement this after he provides the "aha!"-moment.
