@bkastl@mastodon.social Ich würde ehrlich gesagt nichts auf diese Aussage der Energie-Konzerne geben. Die wollen das, was ihnen am meisten Gewinn bringt und das sind auch nicht EE. Das sind die alten Kohle- und die neuen Gaskraftwerke. Ohne selbst für Kernkraft zu sein, aber eine Entscheidung für diese wäre eine strategische, die auch subventioniert werden müsste. Nach dem Motte: Ja est ist teuer, aber CO2 frei und grundlasttragend.

@elaine@ap.elaine.is Sorry, can you explain the "centralized" part? A company can run their own Nextcloud server or rent a central out-of-the-box solution. It's as centralized as Google. But of course: Google is way easier to maintain and to scale. But we aren't talking about convenience first but about #digitalsovereignty and digital security.

@elaine@ap.elaine.is Ever stumbled upon #nextcloud ? It provides most of the #Google suite functionality. Not 100 % there but for everday use it got so much better in the last years. And I do want #foss to be what it is: A worldwide project that benefits all of humanity. "We" in the #EU should use that power to create a framework that should work with "our" essential apps. But I don't see why it should raise walls where it can provide digital freedom and plurality.

It always seemed like a nerdy thing that German cities switched to Linux. Unnecessary. But if there are billions to spend on arms and the military we should invest in Linux admins and foss infrastructure. Make banks develop alternatives to iOS and Android apps. Invest in a foss mobile os. Don't give the key to your life to powers that can turn malicious without any notice.

I think that's a no-brainer right now that Europe should pursue digital sovereignty aggressively.

It's not about MS Office vs Libre Office, it's about banking apps, cloud services, your phone, your daily life. Which is a way bigger leverage #Trump has about your daily life. #FOSS is security.
