I just saw myself in a mirror walking out of my therapist's office.

After all that, there's an "M" back on my license. I thought I checked the other box. I guess they just went off my original license that was still on file some 20-something years later.

I could've edited it. I could still go back and change it. I also thought it wouldn't bother me.

It does. I'm not an "M". Nor am I an "F". I'm me.

Sorry if that means that I don't fit into your neat little categories. You'll survive.

Today marks 7 years since I first started screwing up my hormones. I'm always a little conflicted about mentioning this as some would view my transition as a "failure".

I started at 43. My skin changed first. (Still love that one) Next came some perceived mental changes. (More on that later.) Body shape changes followed over many years. Went from flat chested to the B/C cup that I'm at now. Hips and butt changed with fat distribution changes. Face changed but just from fat distribution changes. Didn't end up doing any hair removal. Didn't start in time to save my hairline. No surgeries.

I've said before how I really enjoyed the excitement of the first year. I think that was the mental changes that I felt were caused by the HRT. I do think not being on T helped to calm me down. That said, it took another 5 years or so to convince myself that I really did need to be on an antidepressant.

I'm still very proud of myself for embarking on this journey of self-discovery. I am who I am. Someday, I might actually figure out how I want to present to the rest of the world.

I ran into an old college friend this week. Someone I hadn't seen or talked to in over 20 years. We chatted almost like it was just yesterday that we saw each other.

I lived a lifetime between those times. Marriage, kids, divorce, HRT, two different states, 4 different cars, career changes...

My mind doesn't know what to think about that. Part of me still feels like I'm in college. Part of me still wants to be something different.

This is the part that my parents couldn't explain to me and I can't explain to my kids. We get older but there's always a part of us that feels like our youthful times were just yesterday.

Ok, there's still something cool about watching a big rocket launch.

Did bring back some space shuttle launch memories.

I failed today. I let my anxiety win and didn't attend an event I had registered for. I even took a sick day from work because I just wanted to hide.

I wanted to wear my "Trans Lives Matter" pin today to this event. I don't know what scared me more. Going to the event with all those people or wearing a pin.

So I hid in the comfort of my apartment and my screens.

Guess I'll wear that pin tomorrow and every day after that. Because trans lives matter. Every single day of the year.

And I'm trans.

I just caught myself when I thought I clocked someone. Then I stopped, took a breath, and moved on.
