@ms_zwiebel@tech.lgbt I am a non expert, but my understanding, and the way I am aiming going is looking at ollama and a local llm. #homelab maybe the hash to ask on? Whether you can or want to go down the home server route is a whole other question. (I have and wasn't thinking about local Ai, but all the other stuff my homelab gives me is such a plus.)

@brent_bartlett@mas.to Cheers, as it turned out, it randomly connected the next day and I was able to do the secondary steps to make sure it stuck, but that power on command is well worth remembering if I need to do again. It's been faultless since I got it set up, so go figure.

An update: Well, different day and it just worked. So yesterday the DAC showed up in the BT GUI, connected, sound working. Quickly made sure that all the background default/trust etc stuff were all on and it's been 100% fine ever since. :shruggingteeth: I also looked up BlueZ on github, and it appears its 1 dude. So on #Linux brand.

@strateture@mastodon.social interesting, will keep an eye. Out of interest, have you paid/joined? I haven't hit anything yet, but I also paid straight away, so maybe that's the wall/sell whatever.

Just got sent a link to https://www.subvert.fm/. Love the idea. Unsure on its #foss status, but for those in the #linux space and those generally looking to support folks directly who create stuff seems like a no brainer. #streaming #music

More a general musing, but I'll take specific advice too. Why is Bluetooth such a minefield on #Linux.? I've had no issues with mice, and headphones (actually not strictly true, was a little picky on Ubuntu when I first had it, but not too bad), but anything outside of headphones and mice, it's an absolute crapshoot. I have just rearranged my set up and have Adam Audio Dx3s into a topping DAC. DAC goes usb in to my desktop, and is fine, Want to BT to my linux laptop when I'm at the desk. And it connected once, but then when I came back, it's never worked again. on #fedora (44), but issue has been same on previous. And I've read many an account of BT struggles. Seems a real pain point and I don't get it.

What do we think could run on this? Tiny Core? Would something like Tails that runs off usb work? or do I have wrong end of stick and the cpu etc still needs to beb able to deal with stuff? Going to e-waste otherwise, just want to try on principle. #linux

Feel like a random musing: Have been using Linux now for between 9 and 12 months. Lost track in there somewhere.

First just on a spare laptop (Ubuntu) and then when I got gifted some others and also had another old unused windows orphan laptop I did some distro hoping. Vanilla OS, LM Cinnamon and XFCE, Fedora (workstation), Bazzite. And have given even briefer goes to some others, as well as distrosea.

Current set up is now Debian on my #homelab server. Fedora workstation on 2 laptops that we use mostly. LM XFCE on an old school laptop for streaming purposes, and Bazzite on one other spare just to see how it goes before I switch my big boy windows desktop to it.

My general takeaways, Ubuntu was fine as an intro, and I am only floating in the pretty mainstream distro space, #Fedora has been fantastic as a daily driver. zero complaints and IMO should be recommended more as a first option for folks migrating.

#Gnome is my DE of choice. (I actually preferred having to relearn a bit rather than being almost windows) Yes it's perhaps too opinionated, but having hopped around a bit, with different distros defaulting to different bits of gnome tweaks and finding options that I can't do without, I prefer the stripped starting point and then having to add, as opposed to the KDE optionfest out of the box. (I thought I would find KDE more inituitive, go figure)

Anyhoo, Homelabbing got me really actually working/using #linux, and it's all rather fun and delightful.

Zero day kernel exploits notwithstanding. ;)

@flareapp it appears update has changed my menu language Japanese? I can post and read most things, but note attached pic. Have tried adjusting language in settings, while guessing where it is.

@matthew@social.retroedge.tech why don't folks ever actually rec debian itself? Curious. I'm on fedora, with debian running a server, but as an option on a laptop I could see a case for debian itself.

@matthew @tehstu before lucking into some dell laptops, I was eying off buying an old imac to muck around on. Reddit appeared to flag sound issues on imacs from 2015 and prior? I have no idea if this is actually the case. Anyone have experience with that? I am still semi curious because I love the screen and all in one idea.
