Radicle is p2p, meaning ones identity is the node. If you use a laptop and a desktop for example to work on the same project, those are two distinct identities. While forgejo federation is built on activity pub, Radicle builds on top of git, which means everything builds on the concept of an append only structure. That makes it hard to moderate, as that would mean rewriting history.

@jenesuispasgoth @mjg59 This is not AI endorsement, but given a sufficiently large problem / codebase, I would wager you wouldn't get a reliably identical result from having a human write code for the same problem twice either. We expect determinism from LLMs because "its computers", not because its necessary for good results.

The promise of open source was that it was safe because people could (and would) read and audit one another's code, and we would derive trust from that. It used to work because for a long while, there was much less code to read and worry about and the community was a tightly knit bunch of enthusiasts. Nowadays, we have an unmanageable influx of code maintained by a single, burned out maintainer, which is impossible to keep up with.

@KalleWirsch @stubenhocker @alios In Norwegen wird sehr viel und auch sehr viel intelligenter geblitzt. So sind bsp. Bereichsblitzer auf vielen Strecken Standard. Die messen nicht, wie schnell du am Blitzer vorbei fährst, sondern auch, wie lange du für die Strecke zwischen zwei Blitzern gebraucht hast. Dazu kommen saftige Strafen. Für 50 in einer 30er Zone solltest du je nach Umstand 1000€ einkalkulieren. Das zieht schon.

@dalias@hachyderm.io Precisely, the background action is used to keep the socket alive because the app will not be sent to sleep (battery optimized). This is also what Signal does for their websocket connection which is used to listen for push notifications. The thing is that this background notification is not free in terms of battery usage. Using a service like FCM to wake up you app would safe on this background service, thus saving on battery.

@dalias@hachyderm.io Essentially, Android apps are not native Linux programs. They run on top of a virtual machine that abstracts away the operating system capabilities to a degree deemed necessary by Google. Specifically, when your app is sent to sleep by the VM because of inactivity, your socket will time out. Android is a Linux in name only and the abstractions put in place by Google do not support (or rather: not allow) what you suggest.

@dalias@hachyderm.io The vexing part is that @signalapp@mastodon.world (seemingly categorically ) refuses to cooperate with the rest of the FOSS world to integrate with open solutions, which already exist. Instead, their spokespeople like @Mer__edith@mastodon.world prefer to talk down to people who, for whichever reason can't or don't want to run proprietary Google services on their Android phone.

@dalias@hachyderm.io There are a couple of options for notifications. The most battery saving design is to have your app being woken up whenever a notification is received. This way, you app does not use battery while there is nothing for it to do. The dominant solution in this space is integrated into Google Play (proprietary). The opposite site of the spectrum, and the solution Signal chose, is for the app to require permission to stay awake all the time polling for notifications. @Mer__edith@mastodon.world
