I recently spent a bit of time at work seeing how well @webrecorder@digipres.club 's (excellent) Browsertrix and ArchiveWebPage work at archiving Facebook posts:

It looks like the automated behavior for scrolling and interacting with the page may need adjusting. But more worrisome is that even when content has been archived, and successfully returned to the browser during replay there is some FB JavaScript that is preventing the archived content from being added to the page?

It's hard to overstate how useful it is to be able to watch a web archiving crawler do its work (the actual browser windows) while also being able to inspect, edit and click on the the queue of URLs yet to be crawled. Maybe there are other solutions to this, but I've yet to see any software do better at this than @webrecorder@digipres.club's Browsertrix https://browsertrix.com. I've found it's especially important when you are using a browser "profile" to be able to crawl otherwise unavailable content.

I never noticed how #Maintenance has the French word "maintenant" in it, which means "now", and is composed of the words hand (main) and to hold (tenir). It speaks to how maintenance requires attention and engagement with things as they are. It also reminds me of one of the perks of maintenance work is that it grounds and connects you to the present.

I've made a career out of building, repairing, and preserving the web. Now, closer to the end of my career than the beginning, I see I haven't spent enough time learning methods for how to dismantle and disentangle the web from work and lived experience. How to practice viable and effective strategies for resisting automation & convincing decision makers when to turn things off.

@despens I really liked those examples of how "blurry" net artworks were transformed by incorporating documentation practices (like caching). Have you ever considered/tried configuring similar pieces to to talk to the external web through a recording proxy (e.g. pywb)? Depending on the deployment I guess there could be privacy issues related to doing that instead of caching only what is needed for the performance?
