This evening's long overdue project - upgrading Intel Core i7-6700 to Ryzen 7 5800x3D. Took longer than expected and almost gave me a heart attack - after putting stuff into the case and connecting everything, machine did not react to power button. Turned out it was just a switch on power strip not turned on ;) This box will be experimental gaming box - already uses Carbice Ice Pad instead of thermal paste (and with Thermalright Assassin X 120 Refined SE holds 50'C while doing Memtest+ on all cores) and I can confirm - it gets better over time -- started at 60'C and last time I checked it idled at 44'C with very low RPM rate (600 RPM). Also, I'll try Pop!_OS instead of Windows 11. Because screw you, Microslop.

Listening to Coreboard Track Projekt by BooT-SectoR-ViruZ - https://b-s-v.bandcamp.com/track/coreboardtrackprojekt - and after a while I realized it's pretty niche thing, AI overview in Google Search goes even further stating it's "underground". I wonder how many tracks I'd love I haven't heard because they didn't reach me. The one mentioned I downloaded en-masse while home internet was expensive and internet cafes were a thing. (and honestly, I actually miss those times...).

Why #vivaldi suddenly stopped treating their users like adults?
I go to a website without TLS. I type "http://.." in URL bar because I mean it. Vivaldi "upgrades" that to "https://" and fails with connection timed out - even if relevant option is disabled.

Only Americans could come up with such braindead ideas. After restarting my phone my #steam app logged me out. That's fine. But I forgot what password I had so I thought I'll "just" reset password. No, that's too european way of thinking. To reset password in Steam, you have to give them a code displayed in Steam app. But since it's not displaying it (as it's stuck at login screen), I have to pick "I don't have access to authenticator" which in turn asks you to reset... the authenticator, and also bans you for two weeks from Steam Community market. Mailing the support, we'll see what they say.

And your response reinforces it - someone read somewhere that "ping was used as sleep for decades" and never thought about using actual sleep(), because, obviously, Python never had and still doesn't have "sleep()" function of its own. Sprzedawców i sklepy popierdoliło do reszty. AMD wydało ponownie procesor Ryzen 7 5800X3D i w polskich sklepach kosztuje... więcej niż Ryzen 7 7800X3D który jest szybszy z racji większego IPC (architektura Zen 4) i szybszych zegarów, a do tego na platformie AM5. 5800X3D to ostatni sensowny procesor na AM4 i AM4 to ostatnia platforma AMD obsługująca pamięci DDR4. A nowe DDR5 są drogie. DDR4 też, ale skoro ktoś chce kupić 5800X3D, to dlatego że już ma takie pamięci. Także pies ich drapał, mój i7-6700 będzie musiał poczekać na upgrade jeszcze kilka lat.

I love the recent sensationalist "news" of C64 disk drive (actually it was compatible with more than just that, but let's leave that aside for now) is "powerful enough to be a computer". Guys, that's not news. It has the same CPU as Commodore 64 and had 16KB of ROM and 2KB of RAM and its ROM (firmware) had means for programming the RAM using the serial bus it used.

And they even made it bit-bang the video signal in the "Freespin" demo:
