I'm a fairly boring person. If I post anything it'll probably be pictures of my cats. I'm mostly just looking for interesting people to perhaps be inspired of. And I found a bot that regularly posts pictures of red pandas, so that's nice ( @HourlyRedPandas@mas.to ).
He/him, living in Sweden.

Replying to @mullvadnet@mastodon.online
@mullvadnet@mastodon.online I've been grateful for Mullvad, since its been one of the only vocal groups for privacy in this country for a long time now. Ever since FRA was established I've had the feeling that most people don't give a single shit about this anymore. As long as they can complain about the weather, take their annual plane vacation to Tenerife and post their incessant shit on Instagram in order to get a few more likes from their relatives and friends so they can stroke their own egos for a bit. Therefore I've been silent about this whole ordeal, in anticipation of what kind of statement and actions Mullvad would take after reflecting on this for a while. Remember, this amount of money in this small country makes this a different beast than something you can just boil down to "Hey, we don't give a shit what Mr. Doe spends his weekly private allowance on, give us some slack." This is not chump change over here. I would've guessed that their co-founders and employees would be smarter than this. I would've guessed that they would realise that this issue is really important and demands proper focus. That it's too important to let even the prospect of a misstep ruin it (I think we all know the thin ice VPN providers in particular live on when it comes to trust). I've been a paying subscriber for quite a few years by now, and I was not happy about having to look up this particular party in Örebro. I would've hoped that I wouldn't have to spend my time on something like that because of this. Now, I live in Sweden (unfortunately) but I don't live near Närke and because of that I don't really see any news about local issues there. Local news are very solidly guarded behind paywalls in this country, so we're not really encouraged to find any news about our neighbours, leaving most of us to read about other peoples' feelings and guesses on Facebook. I still haven't managed to find a lot of news or facts about this party due to this, but in my mind it's not actually really the most important aspect of this either. The co-founder has in all likelihood gotten enough wealth from this company to be able to spend nearly 500 000€ on this party contribution, and judging from his own admission he doesn't particularly agree with their views or want them to have more power. If the blog post is to be believed (once you've gotten through the initial parts that are mostly factoids followed by his own unsubstantiated deductions and conclusions) it seems he basically spent it because of... a general feeling of "meh, fuck it". Or...? That's even more befuddling if that's the case. I don't know about the rest of you, but I never signed up for contributing to that. (And if he has such a private wealth that he can leisurely spend that amount of money with or without the help of his company on something he allegedly doesn't even really believe in I'd say it's even worse, and that it's obvious that he's part of the problem he himself is lamenting that this country is suffering from). I won't call Mullvad co-founders or employees fascists. I won't call them any other names either. I won't even ask for a refund for the subscription I currently have. But I cannot justify renewing my subscription when it expires in a few months either. I genuinely thought Mullvad were smarter and more serious than this. I thought they would be able to handle this more responsibly than this. Their latest statement has in my ears basically amounted to "Don't sweat it dude, we might occasionally splurge on some stupid shit from time to time. Who knows what consequences it might bring lol. But we still got you fam." To that I say: good luck, but I'm not comfortable with that "vibe", so I'm going to try to find a more serious and focused alternative to spend my money on from here on. As Mullvad themselves have basically stated the last few years, this issue is too important. Imagine what Mullvad could have done if the co-founders were serious enough about their own organisation to put this amount of money towards this actual issue instead? Also Mullvad, seriously: "But societies need a great diversity of ideas, initiatives and organizations who can be tested and sifted until the best ones remain. Ideally through rational debate." Since when was a private financial contribution of 500 000€ to a singular regional party an attempt to "sift initiatives and ideas and have a rational debate"? That's exactly the kind of behaviour you yourself have been criticising other private companies of doing in order to try to influence political decisions. Shame on you for not owning up to your own actions.

@flwwhtrbt@mastodon.social @krutonium@social.treehouse.systems To be fair, Decky definitely has a tendency to break occasionally. I had to reinstall it just a few weeks ago due to it showing a black screen I couldn't interact with or escape after it consistently failed to update itself for example. While it's the first time that I've had to actually reinstall it it has forced me to long press the power button to restart the Deck more times than I can count during the years I've used it. But it makes sense that it's not perfect all the time, considering what it does. It's no easy task keeping up with Steam updates/changes and they're doing it commendably.

@inthehands@hachyderm.io I see plenty of people saying things like these, but I haven't seen any links to actual news articles. What's the latest development? The latest news I've seen was the sale to Songtradr in 2025. Has anything happened recently that's worth knowing? For now, I keep buying on Bandcamp. I've never used any social media and I've never used Spotify or any other music streaming service. I want to buy the music and get a copy I can download DRM-free. And I'm not going to accept any lossy format for something I spend money on. So it's primarily Bandcamp, with the odd purchase on Qobuz. At times I have to hunt around for some site that sells downloadable albums when it's not available on the usual spots. I try to check the artist sites for how they would prefer people buying their stuff. I'm guessing they only post any such things on those social media pages though, which I don't see. And while they're still putting their own music on Bandcamp I have to assume that they're okay with me purchasing there as well. Anything else would be untenable, I have too many artists to keep track of already.

@branch300bpm@social.vivaldi.net To be fair, when you set up your Steam Authenticator/Steam Guard you were actually _very explicitly_ prompted to save that aforementioned code in case you might need it for a future recovery. So if you've lost both your password and that code I can see how you'd be banned from the market for a while. I really wish you didn't have to use Steam's own authenticator app though, it's stupid for other reasons.

@alexpalacefan@mastodonapp.uk @janeishly@beige.party If a lot of people actually think "driving safely is optional" this feature won't do jack shit to help, that's one of the problems. Human beings' disregard for or ignorance of rules – whether it's pedestrians, cyclists, scooter drivers or drivers of vehicles with four or more wheels – will not be solved by a shortsighted new technical feature in some of the vehicles. A lot of people can't drive (or cycle, for that matter) safely while under supervision either, in my experience. This problem needs a different solution. We need to stop blaming phones, touchscreens and the like. Even before those were popular I regularly saw (and still do) people doing their makeup while driving. But banning mascara isn't the solution either, and it frustrates me to no end that I even have to type that sentence.

@Savagejen@mastodon.social This one hit me. I was considered such a person by many in my workplace. (And I have to admit that it in a way warmed my cold heart that so many colleagues seemed to value my opinion and help.) Still, I handed in my letter of resignation after 13 years, surprising many of my colleagues. I just felt too overworked and undervalued. I left there a year ago. Though I still feel kind of... lost, or maybe misplaced – for a lack of a better description – on the new job. I think I spent way too many years there.

@hardpenguin13@mastodon.gamedev.place I'm not generally a Steam defender, I've always had my fair share of qualms with them. Although I'd claim they have done plenty of good things no one else ever bothered with. Cloud saves, Workshop, Proton, Steam Input, just to name a few. But what I _really_ think everyone seems to have forgotten by now is Remote Play Together, making local-only co-op games playable online. That was an absolutely brilliant idea and a technical achievement that they deserve plenty more credit for. That has been a complete game changer for a lot of us. All the other competitors have always just focused on the games and thrown money on that. They've never realised that they at this point would need a bigger perspective than that, after giving Steam/Valve this much of a headstart. Just expanding the game library would've been enough in 2005. But back then they were still all too busy talking shit about how PC gaming was a lost cause instead of trying to do something. And it's not like Valve has been super speedy with any of their new features either... GOG has been the only competitor in my mind that has stuck to it the entire time and actually _tried_ to get somewhere, with the limited resources they have. But the odds have always been stacked against them.

@usernomnomnom@mastodon.social Flamman is an officially socialist newspaper but hinting that they're an unreliable source is quite the accusation. What have they done to make you call their trustworthiness into question? There are plenty of newspapers/news agencies editorially aligned to either the left or right in Sweden, that are still valid sources of information. Would you act the same towards SvD for example? They're about as right-leaning as Flamman is left-leaning. I have no idea what kind of party Örebropartiet is though, since I don't live in Örebro or have any connection to it. But I'd like to point out that Flamman did also only call it populist, not far-right. That was @lostgen@det.social 's term.

@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange Thank you for saying that. I sometimes wonder if that's the case when I talk to people, where I feel that I spend sooo much time trying to articulate something well and it just falls flat when I see their reply. My first instinct is always "I'm bad at this, I should've done something differently". But sometimes I get that exact thought: "Maybe it actually isn't me, maybe they didn't read what I wrote from start to finish?" I'm still always inclined to criticise myself of course, that has always been my go-to for as long as I can remember. But sometimes I do actually try to think that maybe – just maybe – I'm not worse or more lousy than everybody else all the time. Maybe I just this once actually managed to give it a decent attempt and that maybe they just read it too quickly? English isn't my first language, but still. Maybe it could be a possibility, at least occasionally?

@Gina@fosstodon.org This is worrying. EU does also seem to be way too eager to allow Apple and Alphabet to run the show henceforth, blocking other alternatives. It seems that we soon won't be able to even pay our bloody bills without having a licensed Apple or Google phone... I hope the article mentions that, Heise and their 193 partners will not let me read the article without either accepting cookies or subscribing, so...

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st @billgoats@bitbang.social I'm a bit late here, but for what it's worth that bit was intact for me on my Kindle Voyage that I decided to jailbreak a few years ago at least. I have no idea if it's same for all Kindle models though, so probably worth to make some kind of "progress note". :/

@flwwhtrbt@mastodon.social Interesting! I hadn't heard about that particular device. I have to say that no gapless playback for a dedicated device like that is a deal breaker for me personally though. I basically only buy music on Bandcamp these days, with the occasional Qobuz purchase. Then I stream it all from my self-hosted gonic server (Subsonic fork) to either DSub2000 on my phone or to a desktop Linux app that my brother developed, so I'm one of the odd ones who've never actually used Spotify at all, not even once. Looking forward to see what more you dig up!

@janeishly@beige.party Did you eventually go? I missed this unfortunately. I've started to go to more concerts lately, just saw Karnivool and Plini in Stockholm these last few weeks for example. What's a good site for seeing what's on in Copenhagen? While I live up north in Sweden I'm toying with the idea of going to both Oslo and Copenhagen if there's actually something good showing.

@metnix @phraktalz @mhoye @billgoats That's such a stupid thing of them to say. I have a Kindle Voyage from around 2014 or so, and while it isn't (yet) part of the group of models about to be bricked, it's still basically on par with the e-readers released today. The technology itself hasn't really made any notable advancements for over a decade now. With the exception of some slight improvements to the panels that can show colours I guess, but that isn't too impressive either.

@jascha Hmm. I don't know if I'm neurotypical or not, I've never looked into it. I definitely don't have the gift of not thinking at all. There's always something "in the background", maybe not always something that's too tangible or easy to put into words though. I do have the habit of occasionally saying that I'm not thinking about anything particular, but the keyword is "particular". It's a stream of consciousness, like water flowing. I might not have paid enough attention to pick out things well enough to describe the things in the stream. I almost always know the gist of the thoughts during these moments, but might not have spent any energy putting words to it, and therefore struggle to describe the thoughts. I haven't yet translated it to words, if you will. So when I'm in those situations it's easier to just say that I'm not thinking about anything. And sometimes I just say that if I want to avoid talking about certain things, of course. If some people actually _are_ able to shut it off completely I have to say that my mind is kind of blown. It's so interesting to think about how peoples' minds operate, I wish I knew more.
