I would like to start my own website one day. I'm thinking that my website would have a few static pages such as homepage and contact page, a page that would show my artworks with pagination and a blog. I'm most likely going to be writing the frontend with just vanilla HTML and CSS, no JavaScript framework to keep it simple. If I must use a JS framework however, I'll go with Vue. Thing is, concerning the page that shows my artworks, I kind of dislike the idea of manually editing the HTML to add a new entry of a new piece of art that I just made, same thing when it comes to blog. it feels... bad and it seems like it would be a maintenance nightmare. I'm thinking that I would use a lightweight database engine like SQLite 3 when it comes to the artwork and blog part, but I wonder if even using a DB engine in the first place is already overkill for a small personal website. Which web framework would be right for my specific needs? And which hosting should I use? I want to avoid relying on big tech, so no Google Cloud and AWS and this also includes GitHub Pages because GitHub is owned by MS. I don't mind having to code because I know how to code. I don't mind paying a few euros for hosting. A free option is a bonus, but I am open to paid options as well. (actually I would prefer paid hosting, see thread below) I'm new to hosting a website and web development, so help would be welcome.

@gruby@mas.to Yeah... child protection organizations want the governments to regulate big tech instead of invading our privacy. A group of cybersecurity and privacy experts warned that ID verification is dangerous due to data breach and the fact it invades our privacy, and there have been data breaches! Yet, the legislators don't understand despite all of this and it's really frustrating.

@gruby@mas.to The thing that is a *little* different from other governments that want to implement ID verification is that Greece just openly said that they want to remove anonymity, that they don't want us to be anonymous, that they want to be able to link what we do online to our real identity. Unlike other governments where they promise that ID verification will protect children (which these laws fail to do so, and it's not actually about protecting children after all), Greece just flat out said "we want to erase anonymity" and that's really fucking terrifying. Like... it wouldn't be surprising if we go from "under [insert age here] social media ban" to laws requiring us to have real names online, and I have heard of bills even before the ID verification trend that require us to show our full legal name online. And that's the most terrifying part, we're not really far from the death of anonymity, even using "NovemDecimal" as my pseudonym would be outlawed, and would require me to use my legal name online. Anonymity did cause people to do really wild stuff on the internet, BUT... banning anonymity is not going to solve the problem of toxicity at all, and really the solution would be to regulate big tech. Some people rely on anonymity for their own safety such as marginalized people, so banning anonymity would do more harm than good. Again... banning anonymity is NOT the solution.

Can someone give me online resources about making comics? I want to try making comics. I'm interested in fundamentals like layouts, speech bubbles, expressions and so on. I'm not interested in developing a "comic book artstyle" (I'm going to just go with my current style) or how to get started in digital art tutorials (because I already have some art experience). I'm mainly a digital artist, I use Krita as my software for drawing. Any type of resources are welcome (videos, PDFs, articles, blogs), the only rule is that it need to be free of charge since I don't want to commit into making comics yet.

I need recommendations for third party Mastodon clients. I do content creation in the Fediverse, mostly posting artworks and one feature that would really be useful is scheduling my post (write now, send later), because I am targeting American timezone however this requires me to stay up very late to do so.

I mainly use Mastodon on my computer and I use Linux Mint, so I need an app that runs on desktop and is compatible with Linux.

Would someone recommend a third party app for me?

I also accept other ways to schedule a Mastodon post other than third party clients as well, so if you know other ways, feel free to let me know in this thread!

@jonsnow P.S: Even if you would still be able to use essential features, it does set a precedent for subscription-based OS where you don't own a copy of the OS, that's not really the future of computing we want to be headed to.

Quick question though, in the article they mention some features of the OS will be behind a subscription, wouldn't that mean that you would still be able to use essential features?

Either way, the fact existing computers that were designed to run Windows 11 are not going to be compatible with Windows 12 because of the NPU requirement bullshit already makes me glad I switched to Linux, it's like Microsoft knows. Being able to upgrade your operating system without having to buy an entirely new computer is a thing of the past it seems. :/

How do you make friends in the #Fediverse? I'm hoping to rely less on big tech, proprietary software for communication like #Discord, however it's incredibly difficult to convince my contacts to migrate and it just feel really lonely out here.
