One of the reasons I stopped developing for FreeCAD was that I noticed the issue with AI and devs. And expected it to get way worse as AI tools were getting better. Most OSS banning AI including FreeCAD, sounds fun on paper but it's like banning auto-complete, it's ineffective and contra-productive.
It's more a decision that is made to look like you're on some moral high ground, it's purely a political statement as it's impossible to reinforce.

@Gina We need too make laws where it is illegal to sell data, and stop google from offering android for free, and so stop users to be a product instead of a customer. Customers who pay will be more critical when they pull shit like removing functions.
I had a Tuya smart watering valve laying around for like 3 years, now I finally needed it hard.
It burned out on the first test-run.....FFS.
On the positive side I ordered a ZigBee Sonnoff as a replacement and now I don't have to deal with tuya bs.

How big of a chance is that AI is going to cause issues that can only be solved by AI?
Then we might ban AI, but you'll get (illegal) AI farms just like we had bot farms for ages.

@jorijn@toot.community Funny story I wanted to make a reservation at a restaurant at 17:30 but only 17:00 was available. So I thought I'd be nice to call them up to ask if this is an issue since we couldn't make it earlier.
Then I got an AI bot, asked it if we could book at 17:30 which was not possible. So I asked for 17:00, then asked if it was ok if we where 30 minutes late. Which was not an issue.

@gamingonlinux I assume the whole app was setup to get training data or to improve the software. Now it is more mature it will be re-released as professional software, with a $1000+ pricetag. Pretty much how most software gets developed by big tech. Commercial software is never free you are ether the tester, or the product.

@adafruit For me it's pretty obvious why they doing. Prusa now has a huge business to run and is protecting his IP so he can keep paying his people. Furthermore other companies are applying for patents as no other, making it even more difficult.
It sadly proves that opensource isn't an ideal business model/motto.
As I have no interest into using Prusa IP commercially I'm still OK with it. I fixed my very old mk3s with new parts a week ago so that is nice. Best Open alternativ is Voron.

Maybe we should have a government owned search engine like a digital phonebook but it's a websitebook, so we are not 100% stuck with big tech for our digital infrastructure.
